The standard electromechanical motor starter is switched with conventional contactors and is offered as a direct or reversing starter with optional 400 V brake control. It is characterized by simple, fast parameter assignment.

Compared to the standard version, the electromechanical high feature motor starter has four additional digital inputs and enhanced parameterization options. This enables the use of local control functions and the monitoring of current limits, thus facilitating handling direct on-site, and minimizing plant shutdowns. Another highlight is – depending on the application and motor operating conditions – parameterizable trip classes.

This motor starter has the same basic features as the electromechanical high feature motor starter while offering additional benefits: It is equipped with semiconductor switching elements and thanks to its wear-free switching is especially suited for applications with high switching frequencies. This increases plant availability and reduces maintenance times. In addition, it has an integrated soft starter and smooth ramp-down function. The conversion from motor starter to soft starter is achieved using simple re-parameterization in the SIMATIC Manager.

The isolator module with its switch disconnector function safely disconnects individual motor starters or motor starter groups from the main circuit, thus facilitating maintenance work. Depending on the design, it also protects individual motors or entire motor starter groups against short-circuit. The isolator module can be integrated directly into the ET 200pro system and increases plant availability and transparency in distributed drive solutions.

These local safety applications require a 400 V disconnecting module and a safety local isolator module. This ensures that up to SIL3 according to IEC 61508 und PL e according to ISO 13849-1 to be achieved.

 

The disconnecting module in combination with a safely local isolator module shuts down individual motor starters or motor starter groups in a hazardous situation. And all that without costly programming or parameterization since a safety relay is integrated in the safety local isolator module as a fail-safe evaluation unit.

With this concept, the disconnecting module in combination with an F-switch shuts down individual motor starters or motor starter groups in a hazardous situation via PROFIsafe. This enables PL e according to ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 according to IEC 61508 to be achieved.

With an F switch alone, PL c or SIL 1 can be attained, but not with an electronic motor starter.
