Medium voltage      blue GIS® 

As the owner of the power distribution grid and the associated electrical equipment, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH ensures the safe and reliable power supply to the German capital. With the innovative 8DJH 12, a switchgear using Clean Air as insulating was put into operation in a medium-voltage compact substation (10 kV) in Berlin-Siemensstadt. Clean Air consists only of natural components of the ambient air, with a GWP <1. Since the new switchgear has the same dimensions as the version with SF6, it is equally suitable for use in compact substations.

BKK Nett AS in Bergen, one of the most innovative Utilities in Norway, had a clear goal for a new MV switchgear for distribution substation: A compact ring main unit that would operate more sustainably, reliably and economically and could work at very low operation temperatures. Siemens had the complete solution: The 8DJH 12 - blue GIS switchgear is equipped with Clean Air and the reliable and proven vacuum interrupter technology, offering all advantages of a gas-insulated switchgear at the same time. The SF6-free and maintenance-free switchgear offers lower operating costs combined with a high degree of low-voltage equipment.

A power plant means a challenge in terms of operational reliability and availability for critical chemical processes and adverse environment conditions. With its experience and know-how as a service provider in the chemical industry, the Currenta GmbH has set new standards for this project with the MV switchgear solution of Siemens by installing and commissioning 8DAB 12 - blue GIS. A first step to the vacuum switching technology with Clean Air and F-gas-free insulation that offers more benefits for installation, operation and end of life treatment, and with a better impact on the environment.
