OPENING CEREMONY

The sound of war, the keys of peace is the title of the Ceremonial speech to be given by Ilija Trojanow at the opening ceremony of the Salzburg Festival 2022.

Intendant Markus Hinterhäuser sees Ilija Trojanow as an ideal keynote speaker: "Ilija Trojanow is a 'world collector' in the best sense of the word - which is also the title of his well-known novel published in 2006. In a constant movement between languages, cultures, and epochs, he sets out again and again in search of complex truths and world views, of ways to experience freedom and reach a humane agreement. As a reminder for tolerance and discourse counts he is not only one of the most important but also one of the most committed writers of our time."
