LA CLEMENZA DI TITO

Opera seria in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Salzburg Festival 2017, Felsenreitschule - in Italian). A production of ORF, 3sat and UNITEL.

In his directorial comeback with Mozart's last opera La clemenza

di Tito at the 2017 Salzburg Festival, Peter Sellars, together with the "young savage" Teodor Currentzis on the podium, has presented a gripping, clever and multi-layered update of the material of the ancient Roman emperor Titus, telling it in a new way and close to our social reality. The director shows Servilia and Sesto as two characters from a fugitive stretch that Titus takes a liking to. But the trust is abused and leads to the attack against the ruler. Musically, the opera was also expanded with excerpts from the Mass in C Minor and the Masonic Funeral Music. The result was rewarded with frenetic applause at the premiere. The critics wrote of a "stirring" opera evening: "Mozart once again gives goose bumps in Salzburg."
