Launch in Australia In the first-of-its-kind university and industry MindSphere partnership, Siemens and Swinburne University of Technology have joined forces, launching Australia’s first MindSphere demonstration and application centre in the University’s Factory of the Future.

The launch acts as an extension of the $135 million PLM software grant by Siemens to Swinburne back in 2017. MindSphere already has more than one million connected devices and systems worldwide, and the demonstration and application centre will act to further highlight the potential of this IIoT system to transform data into usable information.

In his opening remarks at the launch, Siemens Australia CEO, Jeff Connolly commented:

“Data is being described as the oil of the 21st century. 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years and 5.5 million new ‘things’ get connected every day. However, the value is in being able to refine that crude data and turning it into usable business information. This requires sophisticated platforms that simplify and enable the process. It also requires skilled people coming through the system — which is what this facility and the partnership is all about.”

Collaboration

The recent launch of Australia’s first MindSphere demonstration and application centre in Swinburne’s Factory of the Future marked a significant moment for Siemens in the Pacific region with the signing of the MindSphere Foundation Partners agreement.

Mindsphere foundation partners — The eight partners to this agreement are Alliance Automation, Globetech, NZ Controls, Centric PA, Spectrum Automation, Nukon, Interlate and Mescada.

Signing on to MindSphere — Signing on as MindSphere Foundation Partners, these organisations have demonstrated their support of the IIoT system and its introduction into education, and further, their dedication to preparing the region for Industry 4.0.

MindSphere & FC Bayern team up for the perfect turf

The FC Bayern Greenkeeper App, made possible by MindSphere, assists the greenkeeper at FC Bayern’s Allianz Arena and gives the grass a voice. Sensors gather data and send it to MindSphere, which then evaluates the data and converts it into action recommendations: Water more. Expose the grass to stronger light. Switch on the pitch heating.
