Day one is all about making yourself feel at home. You’ll meet a lot of new people, learn a lot of new names and begin to find your way around your new working environment. Take everything in, the excitement starts here.

Before you arrive, make sure to speak to your manager to arrange a time and location for you to both meet. You’ll then sit down with a tea or coffee and go through your introduction plan so you know what’s happening and when.

Your team already know you’re coming and are excited to meet you. You’ll have time to get to know them, learn about their roles and responsibilities, and find out who you’ll be working with closely on a daily basis. Your manager will also introduce you to any stakeholders that are important to your role.

You’ll also have been assigned a ‘buddy’ – an experienced colleague who’ll help and support you from day one. If you haven’t been assigned a buddy, and would like to have one, your manager can arrange this for you.

Don’t worry about eating alone. On your first day, you’ll have lunch with your team. It’ll give you an opportunity to get to know each other in a more relaxed setting and sample the culinary delights of the on-site canteen and local eateries.

During the day, your manager or buddy will show you around your new workspace to make sure you know where to find everything you need. You’ll set up your laptop, phone and other equipment and will have the time to become familiar with your new surroundings.

To make sure you’re integrated into the team and feeling confident in your new role, your manager and buddy will provide you with all the relevant information and introductions at regular intervals.
