More cars in less timeThe production of vehicles has been one of the main economic activities in Brazil since the beginning of the industrialization process. The high potential of the sector, both in the supply of the domestic market and in exports, in the current economic scenario depends on the increase of the productivity and the competitiveness of industries.
Automation and digitization in vehicle production
FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has decided to deploy a new industrial unit to produce Jeep brand vehicles in Brazil. The main objective was to increase sales in the domestic market, consolidating the brand in the country. In planning the new facility, located in the city of Goiana, in Pernambuco, productivity was a key factor.
The new factory was the first of the FCA in Brazil created based on the CArS standard, from Fiat global, strongly supported in technological incorporation. The Fiat Toro, Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade models, nowadays produced at the plant, come from a single fully automated production line, whose productivity already stands out in comparison to the company's first factories in Brazil.
With automation products and software, FCA was able to shape a factory that had tasks of repetitive character and are assumed by high precision equipment, besides allowing the integration of several solutions. With this, it was also possible to achieve high flexibility and efficiency in production, with product customization, production process control, deadlines reduction and optimization of costs. The results are more cars, of several models, produced in less time, answering with agility the demands of the market.
The complex of 530 thousand square meters of industrial buildings that is helping FCA to expand its participation in the Brazilian market also has solutions in digitization. They allow, for example, the creation of virtual images of parts to be produced on the assembly line, allowing one to anticipate eventual needs of adjustments before the production itself.
The automation and scanning solutions in the new Jeep plant were provided by Siemens, which provided an extensive portfolio of products and systems: control panels, automation systems, programmable logic controllers, among others. Among the scanning solutions, the Teamcenter softwares, used to create virtual images, and the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), which allows the management of production data, stands out among the scanning solutions.
