By request, we can provide you with turnkey solutions for high-voltage cable systems. In these cases, Siemens handles all the necessary stages of the project, starting with initial consulting and a feasibility study, including a precise analysis of the requirements, local situation, and time frame.
Because Siemens is not tied to any manufacturer, we can work out the best solution for your challenges. We assume the work of project management, engineering, and design, setting up the construction site and the construction works, as well as procuring the materials. We supervise and monitor the factory testing of the cables at the manufacturer’s premises, arrange transport to the construction site and then perform the installation work and commissioning on-site. After-sales services, any maintenance work or disassembly and recycling all form part of our range of services. If needed, we can also provide assistance with our wide range of financing solutions.

Siemens expertise in high-voltage cable systems
Siemens handles the entire technical calculation process for high-voltage cable systems. For live cable systems we calculate current-carrying capacity for operation under rated conditions (constant and cyclic load), for emergency load operation and for transient operation with regard to transient heating. To determine short-circuit capacity the thermal current-carrying capacity of the conductor, sheathing, and shielding are evaluated, and also the short-circuit forces for sufficient dynamic current-carrying capacities.
Capacitance, charging current, earth-fault current, and charging capacity are calculated to determine the electrical characteristic values of the cable system.
Also computed are inductance, induced voltages and currents in ground wires, metal sheaths, and shielding. Symmetrical components (zero, positive-sequence and negative-sequence impedance) are provided also by measurement.
In case of high load connections, it may be necessary to reduce the losses in the cables by the use of special bonding methods like single-point or cross-bonding of the metallic layers. In these cases Siemens calculates the induced voltages in the metallic layers and selects the correct size for the cable sheath voltage limiters.
During a site visit the installation of the cable system can be planned. This includes the selection of cable joint positions and the creation of a laying concept. Especially when cables have to be pulled into longer pipe sections, the calculation of pulling forces helps to determine optimized cable lengths. The calculation of electrical and magnetic fields around cable systems can also be performed.
If existing, low-pressure oil-filled or gas pressure pipe type cables have to be rerouted or have to be jointed. In case of repair works on these cables Siemens has got the necessary resources of skilled jointers and special tools.
