''Center of Knowledge Interchange'' (CKI) Program
The CKI (Center of Knowledge Interchange) program is the flagship program of Siemens in university collaboration. It is unique among companies collaborating with academia. Siemens gains access to cutting-edge research and highly qualified young talents, the universities run research projects close to industry’s real needs and open up valuable career opportunities for their graduates.
The CKI program ensures a very close relationship, linking complex organizations on both the industrial and academic side. The exchange works through several pillars: A Siemens-financed expert on the university campus (CKI Manager) coordinates the collaboration activities in continuous exchange with a dedicated team of Siemens experts for both research and talent acquisition. On a senior level, an executive sponsor from Siemens’ Top Management maintains the personal dialogue with the university board via the CKI Director (usually a Department Head, Vice Rector or Dean of a university). Due to existing Master Research Agreements with all CKI universities, new research projects can be started easily and quickly.

Principal Partner Universities
The CKI program is complemented by a second partnership model with 17 other universities: the Principal Partner Universities. The joint activities are facilitated by Master Research Agreements and dedicated contact persons at Siemens. The Principal Partner Universities are located in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, the USA and China.
Proven formats of bilateral collaboration allow a maximum of knowledge transfer. Besides classical contract research, Siemens is intensely working with academia in publicly funded projects. Strategic large-scale projects like the Campus Automation & Digitalization in Munich (http://www.campus-ad.de/) or the Campus FES in the Nuremberg-Erlangen region (http://www.campus-fes.com/), as well as new and innovative collaboration formats like cross-CKI idea contests and student hackathons are becoming increasingly important. The exchange with university students is enabled by PhD theses or lecturing assignments from Siemens employees at universities. Additionally, Siemens is member in various academic gremia in order to better link industry´s and academia´s needs.
