Investment philosophy 

Our investment approach is based on high-quality selection and systematic diversification to generate an optimal risk-reward profile for private assets.

We primarily invest in funds in Private Equity, Private Debt and Private Infrastructure and only occasionally sign co-investments with our fund manager.

History

We have built a global private assets portfolio for the German Siemens pensions plans with €2bn Assets under management since 2007.

Since 2018 the Alternatives Team is an integral part of Siemens Fonds Invest.

Historie

Seit 2007 haben wir ein globales Private Asset Portfolio für die deutschen Pensionspläne der Siemens AG mit einem Volumen von €2Mrd. aufgebaut.

Seit 2018 ist das Alternatives Team integraler Teil der Siemens Fonds Invest GmbH.

Michael Aust 

Michael Aust joined the team in 2010 and is currently responsible for our buyout and growth fund investments in Europe and Asia.

 

Prior to Siemens, Michael worked for three years in strategy consulting at The Boston Consulting Group.

 

Michael earned a master's degree in business administration and economics from WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany. 

Martina Baer

Martina Baer joined the team in 2016. She supports the team with regards to finance and operational topics.

 

Prior to Siemens Fonds Invest she worked for the Siemens Historical Institute, the Siemens Corporate Communications Department and the Siemens Arts Program.

 

After training as a publisher, she began her career in 2005 at Siemens and had an opportunity to establish important contacts and build up a global network within the group.

Mark Barac

Mark Barac joined the team at the start of 2022 to support Venture and Growth Capital fund investments in the US, Europe, Israel and China.

 

Prior to Siemens, Mark gained professional experience in finance at UBS in London, as well as at Munich Venture Partners, a cleantech-focused venture capital firm in Munich. He also worked in the Automotive Innovation Center of Allianz Partners in Munich.

 

Mark holds a Master of Science in Politics & Technology from the Technical University of Munich and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Warwick.

Gabriele Fruth

Gabriele Fruth joined the team in August 2022 to support the fund of fund management with respect to financial, operational, and reporting topics.

 

Before joining the Alternative Investment Team, Gabriele worked as a Financial Accountant for the equity business of Siemens Financial Services. Prior to Siemens, she gained work experience at Allianz and Swiss Re.

 

Gabriele holds a Master of Science in Management & Technology from the Technical University of Munich.

Michel Kairhoum

Michel Kairhoum joined the team in May 2020 to support buyout and growth fund investments across US, Europe and Asia.

 

Prior to Siemens, Michel gained professional experience in Private Equity at MEAG, a leading asset management company.

 

Michel holds a Master of Science degree in Business Administration and Economics from University of Hagen and a Bachelor of Science degree in Information-oriented Business Studies from University of Augsburg.

Oliver Kneschewitz

Oliver Kneschewitz joined the team in 2013 and is currently responsible for our buyout and growth fund investments in the US.

 

Prior to Siemens, Oliver spent 4 years at vonBraun&Schreiber, a German Private Equity Fund of Funds. Before that, he held several Investment banking (Deutsche Bank, Houlihan Lokey) and Investment management positions in London, Frankfurt and Munich.

 

Oliver has a Diplom-Kaufmann degree from University of Mannheim and is a CFA® charterholder. 

Fabia Kowallik

Fabia Kowallik joined the team in 2018. She is responsible for financial and operational topics as well as the management of a fund of funds structure.

 

Fabia joined from Allianz Capital Partners where she was a finance expert in the alternative investments sector for 3 years. Before that, she spent one year in Luxembourg supporting the ramp-up phase of a multinational alternative investments structure.

 

Fabia holds a M.Sc. in Business Administration with tech. focus from Technical University of Munich.

Shruti Pattanaik

Shruti Pattanaik joined the team in 2019 and is responsible for Venture and Technology Growth Capital fund investments in the US, Europe, Israel and China.

 

Prior to joining Siemens, Shruti worked for a year as a scientist in a pharmaceutical start-up. She has also worked on scientific projects across universities and research institutes in Austria, Belgium and Germany.

 

Shruti earned a master’s degree in Management from the Technical University of Munich. Additionally, she holds an integrated master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the IIT Roorkee.

Vanessa Schmidt

Vanessa joined the team in 2014 and leads the Venture Capital fund investments globally.

 

Vanessa has built her network across the Venture Capital and Technology Growth industry across the US, Europe, Israel and China.

 

Prior to Siemens, Vanessa worked as a research assistant in the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft where she was responsible for research and consulting projects in the area of energy efficient and resource efficient manufacturing.

 

Vanessa holds a diploma degree in management and technology from Technical University of Munich.

Yilan Wang

Yilan Wang joined the team in June 2020 to support buyout and growth fund investments across US, Europe and Asia.

 

Prior to Siemens, Yilan gained professional experience in investment management and auditing at Credit Suisse, Lombard Odier Investment Manager and PwC in Switzerland and China.

 

Yilan holds a Master of Arts degree in Banking and Finance from University of St. Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).

Alexander Weisser

Alexander Weisser joined the team in 2020 and leads the Fund Finance and Operations team.

 

Alexander started his professional career with Baloise Insurance and Deutsche Lufthansa AG before joining Siemens in 2010 where he worked as a Pension Consultant and in the Alternatives Investment Team for the Pension Fund afterwards.

 

He holds a diploma in Economics from University of Mannheim.
