Ultrasonic flow measurement

A water treatment plant in the southwest United States needed to monitor the raw water coming into the facility for purification as well as the finished drinking water leaving the premises.

The plant chose to install the SITRANS F US SONOKIT in a vault with a side-by-side piping arrangement to measure flow through their large pipe.

The cost to purchase and retrofit install the SONOKIT was at least $50,000 less than it would have cost to purchase and install the same size magmeter. Accuracy was also enhanced and maintenance time was reduced by replacing the previously installed DP transmitter and Venturi tubes with the SONOKIT.

Until recently, the majority of Welsh Water's sewage pumping stations had no system in place to measure flow, necessitating potentially dangerous on-site monitoring.

Siemens clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters have been installed to allow for remote monitoring of wastewater flow, which helps determine whether pumps are operating efficiently.

At one of the most prestigious universities in Asia, the main campus comprises a large number of buildings clustered within a very small area.

In order to balance their chiller load and optimize energy consumption, the university purchased 80 Siemens clamp-on flowmeters and 80 SITRANS FUE950 energy calculators. The instruments now work in conjunction to communicate accurate and reliable flow, energy and temperature readings to the Building Management System.

Remaining aware of exact energy consumption levels at different campus locations has allowed the university to optimize the performance of its cooling system, resulting in considerable energy savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and an improved bottom line.
