1972
Establishment of an office in Dubai for business in the Persian Gulf, Oman and the Yemen Arab Republic
1974
The first outside broadcast vehicle for color television is delivered to Qurum-Muscat, Oman
1975
Waleed Associates becomes the agent for Siemens in Oman
1975
Siemens Medical Engineering signs an agency contract with the Modern Pharmaceutical Company for the whole of the United Arab Emirates (UAE); the contract is transferred in 1978 to the firm of Scientechnic
1976
Siemens builds a desalination plant near Muscat
1977
The foreign agencies in Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Yemen are overseen by the Siemens’ office in Dubai
1979
Oman is the first country in the Middle East to order an electronic telex transmission system; Siemens supplies 230 T-1000 telex machines
1982
The General Telecommunication Organisation (GTO) of Oman commissions digital telephone exchanges, transmission systems and a 1,300 km microwave link from Siemens to extend the national telephone network
1983
The Siemens AG Muscat Branch is founded for the implementation of local projects; Waleed Associates is still responsible for sales
1985
Siemens equips a microwave link through the Oman desert with solar and wind generators
1989
The ship-building business section equips the Zinat al Bihaar vessel with a modern diesel-electric drive
1996
The state mobile network operator GTO commissions Siemens to install a GSM mobile phone network; expanded in 1999 and 2003 by GTO’s successor Omantel
1999
Siemens L.L.C. established in Abu Dhabi and Dubai also engages in business activities in Bahrain, Yemen, Oman and Qatar; it coordinates and supervises the agencies in the region
2001
The network operator Omantel commissions Surpass IP convergence technology from Siemens for the migration of its network to a Next Generation Network
2006
Founding of the Joint Venture Siemens L.L.C. together with the local partner Waleed Associates L.L.C.
2006
Siemens supplies an individual lighting system for Oman’s famous dripstone cave Al Hoota
2010
Siemens receive the first order from Oman for two turnkey combined cycle power plants (Barka and Sohar)
2011
Founding of the Oman branch office
2013
Siemens supplies five gas turbines for the Sur independent power project (Sur IPP), the largest gas-fired power plant project in the eastern province of Oman
