Innovate. Digitalize now. SmartMining.
More and more mining companies all over the world are turning to digital integration to increase efficiency and save money. These digital solutions cover individual aspects up to entire mining operations.
In today’s world, mining companies have their work cut out for them as they face declining ore grades, safety concerns, environmental protection regulations and volatile prices. Cutting-edge solutions are the way forward, and that means integration of more and more digital technologies. While digital solutions have been around for quite some time, Siemens is noticing a big uptake among mining customers across the globe.
Increasingly, these digital solutions are being integrated with the goal of alleviating cost pressure. Experience the digital mining implementations at our main booth in hall C2.

Digitalization: A paradigm shift in minerals
More and more mines and mining areas are set to optimize their operations. What just a few years ago seemed like a futuristic scenario is now reality. Behind Siemens’ digital portfolio, and what sets the company apart from the competition, is the combination of deep understanding of mining processing with state-of-art electric, automation and IT technologies.
Through the cloud-based platform SmartMining anomalies in grinding mills, belt conveyors, mine hoists and more can be detected and rectified early. Downtime is thereby minimized.
The solution offers just what customers want: For the creation of SmartMining, extensive interviews were held with mining staff all over the world, including maintenance engineers and operation managers, to learn more about their pain points. Using the latest digital tools and technologies, Siemens is able to incorporate AI modules and specific know-how which enable the operator to perform immediate actions.
Minerals Operation Management Solution
Siemens designed, engineered and commissioed a new production management system.
(PMS) based on the Siemens Minerals Operation Management Solution. With technology-based services throughout the lifecycle of an industrial plant, Siemens provides
the basis for greater productivity, flexibility and efficiency – reliably, globally and around the clock.
The customer can benefit from more unified planning and business-level insights based on integrated, current and actionable data drawn from its information system, from
ERP and that of other business functions, and from its
plant automation, which is based on Siemens Simatic PCS 7.
SIPLUS extreme - Automation in rough environments
With SIPLUS extreme you can rely on mature, state-of-the-art automation and drive components. SIPLUS extreme products are standard products offering improved resistance to mechanical loads, chemical and biological substances, condensation, and temperature fluctuations. They’re also designed to cope with temperatures up to -40° and +70° Celsius. That’s why SIPLUS extreme is the first choice for all applications where the established standard is no longer enough.
Mobile mining solutions
SIMINE drive solutions for trucks and loaders are powering your mining vehicles reliably – even in harshest environmental conditions. Especially in underground mining applications compact and durable drive systems are mandatory.
Following this principle, Siemens Mobile Mining equips mining vehicles since more than 40 years with mining-proof solutions.
At bauma 2019, Siemens Mobile Mining unveils the second generation of traction inverters for underground mining vehicles. In combination with rugged permanent magnet synchronous motor, powerful and robust drive systems for various types of vehicles can be created.
Both components – which are displayed at the Siemens booth at bauma 2019 – are encapsulated and virtually maintenance free, boosting the vehicle’s TCO.
Integrated Engineering and Integrated Operations for mining and cement plants
Simulation improves engineering and operational efficiency
Imagine that you could use data from COMOS and SIMATIC PCS 7 - generated from the engineering - even before the actual startup of the system.
COMOS, SIMATIC PCS 7 and SIMIT make it possible, due to the seamless transmission of engineering data.
Your benefits in engineering and commissioning
- Seamless transfer of engineering data
- Simulation and testing of the automation functions
- Training of operating personnel
- Efficient and smooth system start-up of the real plant
- Avoidance of errors and costly reworking
- Increased safety
