Future of Manufacturing

Flexible and reliable production

Digitalization is dramatically transforming manufacturing. Both process and discrete industries are benefitting from the seamless integration of data from product development, production and supply chain. This helps manufacturers to respond flexibly to the specific needs of their customers.

Tailor-made process control solutions - ensuring efficiency and reliability

Diversification and expansion of industry is one of the key goals of a region that is seeking to move itself away from a hydrocarbon dependency.

Gulf Pharmaceuticals (Julphar) is the region's largest manufacturer in pharmaceuticals and has been providing quality medicines at affordable rates for decades.  Even so, Julphar did not rest on its successes, always identifying and growing into new product offerings.

Diabetes has been a growing problem in the region, but only recently, thanks to Julphar’s partnership with Siemens, did insulin become readily available at affordable prices to the region’s population. A tailor-made automation solution from Siemens based on the ever reliable PCS-7 now enables Julphar to produce insulin crystals locally.  By using Siemens technology, Julphar was able to create a new local market within biopharmaceuticals, manufacturing and selling insulin at affordable rates while creating jobs.

Siemens stands ready to support Julphar as it always has, by providing top of the line digitalized product and service solutions.

Automation Technology, a high-quality contribution

Julphar is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the Middle East, with over 2500 employees that work tirelessly with Siemens Automation Technology to serve the growing market for insulin. With the Simatic PCS 7 process control system components requiring minimal human intervention in all stages of production, this partnership brings services for life with first-class biopharmaceutical knowledge and experience.

Reliable and dependable operations mean that up to 1,500 kilograms of insulin crystals are produced yearly. This translates to more than 40 million high quality and affordable insulin vials.

Control panels throughout the facility make up to date information available and actionable for technicians on the factory floor.

Constant monitoring is required of all the processes is required to ensure a high quality end product.

More than 7 kilometers of data cable has been laid to connect crucial plant equipment to the PCS 7.

The Julphar 11 Insulin Production Plant is the first of its kind in the Middle East, built to deliver insulin affordably and reliably.

Diversifying industries through digitalization

Siemens technology enables industries in the region to streamline their processes, shortening the time to market while cutting costs.
