How process heat is working now – with Power-to-Heat

Process heat is often generated by using inefficient oil heating systems. The conversion to state-of-the-art hybrid boilers using electricity and natural gas enables the efficient use of electricity for heating, known as “Power-to-Heat.” That comes with numerous benefits: Depending on current costs, the cheaper option can be used, balancing electricity consumption and saving grid fees; this drives decarbonization and reduces dependency on limited and increasingly expensive raw materials.

Flexibly switching between energy sources

At the heart of the Power-to-Heat solution is the generation of process heat, e.g. steam, using state-of-the-art, efficient hybrid boiler systems. These can switch flexibly between carbon-neutral generated electricity (Power-to-Heat) and natural gas, depending on supply and price. These add up to a way of substantially reducing energy costs despite an increase in electricity consumption.

Smart peak load management

The hybrid steam boiler system is integrated into an automated load management system and operated to ensure a balanced electricity consumption. If peak loads arise, the generation of process heat is switched to natural gas; otherwise, as much energy as possible is generated by using electricity. By avoiding peak loads, companies can satisfy the criteria for intensive grid use and obtain grid fee refunds.
