The world's first electrical car and passenger ferry

”Ampere” is the world's first electrical car and passenger ferry powered by batteries – operated by Norwegian ship owner Norled.
Built in conjunction with shipbuilder Fjellstrand, Siemens installed the complete electric propulsion system and put up charging stations with lithium-ion batteries which are charged from hydro power.
Due to the change to battery, the ship owner Norled reduces the cost of fuel by up to 60%.

Waste heat recovery for container ship

The container ship “UMM SALAL” is the largest ship of the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC).
With the help of a waste heat recovery system (WHRS) from Siemens, electrical energy is generated from the vessel´s exhaust gases.
The ship's fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions are reduced by up to 10%, while energy costs can also be decreased by about 10%.

Spanish Navy benefits from Siemens marine solutions

The LHD (Landing Helicopter Dock) and aircraft carrier “Juan Carlos I.” is the flagship of the Spanish Navy.
Siemens delivered an Integrated Drive System: Starting from the generator, the scope of supply goes all the way up to the SINAVY eSiPOD Drive.
The SINAVY eSiPOD can be rotated a full 360° and thus provides excellent maneuverability of the ship.

Pioneer fishing vessel with no CO2 emissions

The world’s first battery-driven fishing cutter “Karoline” was developed by the Norwegian boat builder Selfa Arctic AS and is used by fishing company Øra AS.
Siemens supplied the propulsion technology, including the electric motor, the batteries, the generator, and the control unit for the entire system.
The highly sustainable solution saves fuel, reduces maintenance costs as well as noise and vibrations, and is broadly applicable.

“Elfrida“ is the world's first battery-powered work boat for fish farming – used by Salmar Farming AS, a Norwegian salmon farmer.
Siemens developed and supplied the complete electrical propulsion and control system to the local shipbuilding company, Ørnli Slipp.
Thanks to the electric propulsion system "Elfrida" saves not only fuel and operating costs but also ensures eco-friendly work without exhaust gases, vibrations, and noise.
