Integrated process control of decentralized plant areas: SIMATIC PCS 7 TeleControl

Industrial process plants often extend over large areas - sometimes even across national borders. Operators of such systems require safe and economical access for monitoring and controlling their remote stations. Instead of combining central plant areas and external stations in a superimposed network control system, SIMATIC PCS 7 offers an integrated solution: SIMATIC PCS 7 TeleControl combines all areas in one control station - including common operator guidance, convenient and simple data management and integrated engineering.

Monitoring and control of central and distributed plant areas

Efficient remote solutions with TeleControl

Particularly in the energy and transport sectors, but especially in the water & waste water and oil & gas sectors, plants often extend over very large areas. An optimum overview of the plant in the decentralized process areas is absolutely essential. With SIMATIC PCS 7 TeleControl, the outstations are integrated into SIMATIC PCS 7 in such a way that the operator does not notice any difference between central and remote automation with regard to operating philosophy and alarm behavior. Distributed plant areas are thus brought together in one or more control rooms.

Conventional automation solutions for telecontrol systems use process control systems for the more complex central plant areas as well as simpler remote terminal units (RTUs) for the outstations and then merge these separately configured subsystems into a superimposed network control system. However, it is far more efficient if the telecontrol control station for the RTUs is integrated directly into the process control system. This means that the network control system can be omitted as a superimposed integration level. Telecontrol systems based on SINAUT ST7, IEC 60870-5-101/104 and DNP3 enable fully automatic, efficient monitoring and control of remote process plants. The telecontrol systems enable an integrated communication concept and complete integration into the SIMATIC environment. The control center is networked with the remote stations via WAN (Wide Area Network). When selecting the transmission network, the telecontrol protocols offer enormous versatility.
