Alarm Interface to the SIMATIC IT Historian

Using the SIMATIC IT Historian for longterm archiving of alarms, very often requires to import alarms from different WinCC or WinCC flexible systems. With the WinCC Add-on Historian CONNECT ALARM different datasources can be connected.

Functionality

  • Connecting  WinCC systems
    Different WinCC stations can be the source for the alarms. Historian CONNECT ALARM supports both, WinCC Version 5 and WinCC Version 6. An Agent is installed on the WinCC system. This agent captures the alarms and sends them to the Alarm interface via TCP/IP. The alarm columns in WinCC can be freely assigned to the columns in the SIMATIC IT Alarm filter.

  • Connecting WinCC flexible systems
    Many WinCC flexible systems are able to store their alarms in a CSV-file based archive. The CSV-files are copied, e.g. cyclically or at batch end, to the PC of the Alarm Interface using an ethernet network. The alarm interface reads the alarms from the files and inserts them into the SIMATIC IT Historian. The alarm columns in WinCC flexible can be freely assigned to the columns in the SIMATIC IT Alarm filter.

Enabling data exchange with IEC 61850 devices

IEC 61850 is the globally valid standard for communication in electrical protective systems and medium-voltage switchgear.
All leading manufacturers have therefore already implemented IEC 61850 in their control and protective equipment. The open
standard means simpler configuration, compatibility with future expansions, lower maintenance costs, and thus lower life cycle
costs.
The communication channel makes it possible to operate and monitor IEC 61850-enabled devices with WinCC. This means the

Configuration
The wizard included in the scope of delivery is used to configure data communication via IEC 61850 with an IED (intelligent electric device). It provides the option of importing the .icd configuration file of the device. Alternatively, the wizard can also access the device online and upload the current configuration. The tags and alarms selected by the user are then transferred to the WinCC data management system.

Communication
The IEC 61850 communication channel is an IEC 61850 MMS client. It establishes a connection to each of the configured IEC 61850 MMS server devices. This enables read/write data communication with the devices. Buffered reports continue to be supported: Status changes reported by the device are inserted with time stamp in the WinCC alarm logging system.

Diagnostics
The accompanying values for measured values of the control and protective equipment, such as quality codes, are transferred in the same way as diagnostics information on the connection status of each device. This ensures detailed communication diagnostics are available.

Functionality
The communication channel enables data exchange with IEC 61850 devices. The station controller or the SICAM PAS solution package is available for automation tasks or for connecting devices and control centers.

Exporting Process data

PM-OPEN EXPORT offers a flexible and economical solution for exporting process data and archive data from SIMATIC WinCC into freely designed, independent  text files (ASCII, CSV format as well as HTML and XML format, etc.).

PM-OPEN EXPORT can export to any local or shared network storage media.  Text files in HTML format allow an information system to be built up on the basis of Internet/Intranet.

PM-OPEN EXPORT runs in the background after configuration, i.e. the process data and archive data is transferred automatically to text files without the user s intervention. Data export can be initiated cyclically, time-controlled or event-controlled. Additionally the data export can be initiated manually.

A decisive advantage is the flexible and individual design of the target file. This can include, for example, static text and timestamps in addition to the exported data

PM-OPEN EXPORT is suitable for use in redundant WinCC configurations.

Importing process data

On SIMATIC HMI Comfort Panels or systems with WinCC RT Advanced (TIA Portal) process data (tags and messages) and operator messages are archived locally as CSV formatted logs. By using PM-OPEN IMPORT these archived data can be transferred into a central WinCC* system, where the data is safely stored in chronological order for a long time period. The original timestamps are preserved by the import. As soon as the data is imported, the standard controls can be used to display and evaluate the data.

Together with PM-OPEN IMPORT, SIMATIC meets the requirements for a secure, central and long-term archiving of relevant data throughout the entire automation landscape (from panels close to the machine up to a central SCADA system) as defined in the FDA regulations or in EU regulation 178/2002.

PM-OPEN IMPORT allows the import of the following data types into the WinCC System:

  • Import of WinCC Comfort / WinCC RT Advanced Data Logs
    Data from CSV-formatted Data Logs is imported into the WinCC Tag Logging or into the WinCC RT Professional Archives and can be displayed as trends or tables by using the standard controls.

PM-OPEN TCP/IP represents a flexible and cost-effective solution for the connection of computer systems (MRP, laboratory, logistic and quality management systems, etc.) and office PCs to the automation and process control levels, offering an attractive alternative to the complex, specially designed solutions necessary up till now.

PM-OPEN TCP/IP allows the exchange of tags and messages between WinCC and one or more computers (peers) with Windows, UNIX, etc. using the TCP/IP protocol. Another area of application for PM-OPEN TCP/IP is the coupling of several WinCC stations in order to exchange tags or messages or to collect them centrally. Analysis of Alarm and Process data

Process alarms, status and operation messages from various sources contain plenty of information which sometimes only becomes visible with computer-aided analysis methods.
PM-ANALYZE does not only allow the display of messages and alarms from various sources. With its comfortable filtering and analysis capabilities it also provides an optimal overview even with large numbers of alarms. Analysis results can be directly transfered into Microsoft Excel for even further processing with standard office productivity tools.

By combining and centrally archiving alarms from PCS7, WinCC, WinCCflexible, WinCC V11/12, the Microsoft Windows event log and further arbitrary sources via text import PM-ANALYZE can reveal complex correlations.

Analysis capabilities:

  • The frequency analysis finds the most frequent alarms. By grouping the results freely even over multiple columns the results can be easily broken down e.g. by alarm  source. This extends the functionality of a classical top x analysis towards a more technological oriented top x analysis.

  • The flickering analysis identifies alarms that are occurring in bursts within short time frames. With this analysis methods those burst packages can be accurately spotted with an adjustable threshold.

  • The volume analysis splits the alarms in an configurable timeframe into multiple smaller sub intervals in order to locate clusters that occur in specific timeframes. E.g. a complete month can be split in single days to see if there are increased alarm counts on specific days.

Filtering:

  • Complex filters can be stored either individually for each user or globally for all users in the filter library. Saved filters can be instantly applied later on.

  • Hierarchical filters with up to 4 levels allow spotting of relevant alarms quickly and easily.  The applicable filter criterions used by PM-ANALYZE are automatically calculated from the underlying database.

  • The integrated quick search instantly reduces the displayed alarm list to matching entries

Manufacturing specifications, recipes and parameter sets are used for providing production set points in all kinds of industries and must be managed, monitored for changes in an powerful database and also be clearly displayed to ensure operational quality.  Production orders are created based on these set points in order to provide plan able shop floor operation.

  • By using graphical calculation schemas complex algorithms can be displayed in a easily comprehensive way. Calculation results can be archived in relation to a currently active batch. Statistical functions like integral, standard deviation etc. as well as more complex functions like time categorization are provided out of the box and can be graphically arranged and connected via drag and drop. The provided set of calculation blocks is fully extensible in arbitrary way due to the open system architecture.

Day-, week-, month- and shift protocols:

Library of function blocks for the S7 controllers and faceplates for WinCC and WinCC flexible

The function library SmartLib is a cross-sector library; it is used,for example, for configuring automation and process control systems in the process industry, HVAC, pharmaceuticals and energysectors.

SmartLib was developed for the target systems of WinCC and WinCC flexible in combination with S7-300 or S7-400 controllers.The library contains all the control functions demanded in the process industry and in building management systems. Smart-Lib supports the alarm processing of the systems by transferring the alarms complete with real time stamps. Operator interventions are entered in the alarm system with previous value, new value and user name. Users can adapt the screen icons to their requirements. The library contains function blocks for the S7 controllers, and the faceplates and icons for WinCC and WinCC flexible (option).

Licenses are required in accordance with the number of programmable controllers or operator panels (for WinCC flexible only). There are no limits to its use within WinCC.

Translation and maintenance of multi-lingual visualizations

The DCC Translation Editor 4.2 SIMATIC Edition is the only professional translation tool specializing in the convenient and efficient editing and maintenance of multi-lingual SIMATIC configurations. File export formats from WinCC(TIA Portal) V11, V12 and all other conventional WinCC and WinCC flexible versions can be read in, intuitively edited, translated and then written correctly. Neither the development environment nor Runtime are required for this purpose.

The configuration engineer exports the WinCC texts and messages and gives both the files and the Translation Editor to the translator. Thanks to the seven quality assurance filters, the translator can reliably detect common translation errors such as punctuation errors and incorrect numbers, as well as excessively long translations, and can ensure that each term is translated consistently in all pictures.

Translation in the DCC Translation Editor provides a 100% guarantee that the format is safeguarded: the structure and format of the export files remain unchanged. Headers, footers, variables and the source language are protected from deletion. This prevents errors in visualization as well as costly and time-consuming error localization processes.

Even without knowledge of the target language, the configuration engineer can check the delivered translation for completeness, accuracy and quality by means of the quality assurance filters. The translation can then be imported into the visualization project without problems.
