Data mining is used to select relevant data from a large amount of data. Here the connections and dependencies between different process values are recognized and used for further classification. When classifying the selected data, results are linked and states are automatically recognized and named by the user. Statistical models are generated from this analysed data. These models can then be used for optimization in the plantThis can be done both with historical data and with real-time data.
In addition to the existing KPI, data mining and classification functions, SmartSCADA also provides a generic interface to "R", which allows data from the SCADA system to be processed directly using statistical methods. "R" is a free programming language for statistical data analysis.

In addition to existing ways to archive data based on internal value archive or existing RDB interface to ORACLE it is possible to connect to different other database formats based on specific backends for each of those. These new backends are not substituting the given possibilities, they are enlarging your storage footprint.
In recent version of Next Generation Archiver (NGA) it is possible to connect to Infux DB as well as PostgreSQL and MS SQL. Other systems are on the way to get integrated. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate customer specific data bases.
Not only is it possible to connect to one of these data bases – this opportunity is even open for all of them. In fact you can even combine the existing archiving solutions based in internal Archive and ORACLE with the newly given possibilities.
This allows to design solutions with different data bases handling different levels of control, e.g. on local level you can use internal data bases while collecting a centralized archiving based on Influx DB.
All in All, NGA connects to flexible and open data bases fitting from embedded services up to cloud-based supporting time series as well as enabling SQL-like queries.

Mobile User Interface for iOS and Android
Increasing globalization and mobility require systems for worldwide application which enable mobile access to plant information at any time, in any location.
The mobile user interface from SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture is a mobile client for iOS and Android devices which offers the same possibilities and functionality as a standard client. With the definition of optional device classes stating the width, height and orientation of the different displays, optimum depiction on mobile devices is guaranteed.
Mobile devices are managed and administered at the WinCC OA Server. Project data is automatically distributed through the WinCC OA server, enabling integrated engineering completely without the need for programming. To guarantee secure communication, the mobile UI can also communicate using SSL encryption. Installation is simplicity itself: The app is simply downloaded from the relevant store and is immediately ready for use.

Ultralight Client UX
This is a client for desktop applications based on HTML5 technology. There is no need to install SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture or any plug-in. The aim of this client is to display WinCC OA on desktop PC’s with the integrated browser. It supports Microsoft EDGE, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
This client provides a user interface, which runs in a web browser, with the same functionalities as a standard user interface. This enables a flexible remote access to the system, without installing SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture.
It is installed like an app, the installation package is distributed via the WinCC OA webserver and runs as a stand-alone UI (not a plugin). There is no need to install the UI from DVD or to install a browser plugin. All panels are cached locally via the WinCC OA webserver.
The new Desktop UI startup interface allows the user to choose the project and server combination similar to the Mobile UI. A common device management for Mobile and Desktop UIs is provided.
The Desktop UI is available for Windows and Linux, and for browsers (EDGE, IE, Chrome, Firefox).
WinCC OA Web server
From any standard web browser, you can access and also interactively edit data via the intranet and Internet. This helps solve system monitoring tasks with cutting-edge Internet technology and mobile communication for the user's benefit.

A web-based reporting using a standardized SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) reporting interface is implemented. The new Dashboard functionality enables easy generating of web-based displays. The Dashboards can be defined individually for different users and can be configured online. A dashboard can include a high number of customizable Widgets which can be easily adapted and configured via a wizard. Dynamic SVGs help to realize specific requirements and to adjust the look & feel based on your needs. With all this, the Dashboard offers a new and simple way to visualize preprocessed data to Users.
With this function, it’s possible to parametrize widgets anytime and anywhere during runtime. A wizard-guided process makes the widgets easily adaptable to each user’s individual data visualization goals.

Integrated Video management
WinCC OA VIDEO enables you to integrate complete video management functions natively into a SCADA project. This native integration allows the SCADA user to configure the video hardware and software in the same manner as the classical automation hardware.
The vendor neutral video standard ONVIF 2.0 (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is integrated in WinCC OA VIDEO, which allows the connection to different video hardware.
WinCC OA VIDEO is used to visualize video components and control cameras and PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras either by means of a control panel or using a keyboard and mouse. Because of this, comprehensive monitoring and control of complex devices (e.g. traffic control devices) is possible from a single operator station. This ensures that problem situations can be identified at an early stage and operators can react to these appropriately.
The combination of SCADA and video surveillance is more cost effective than using separate video interfaces, and additional maintenance and operational expenditure are reduced. It also reduces training time for operators.

For each scheduled maintenance task or spurious error event, checklists can be produced beforehand with detailed work instructions, possibly required spares, system and equipment documentation, as well as regulations.
When such an event occurs in a system, AMS automatically triggers a work order, which a dispatcher then assigns to a maintainer with the appropriate qualification. AMS informs the maintainer who can start immediately on the assigned task.
By means of the spare parts codes and tool names recorded in the system, stores are informed simultaneously with the maintainer and can start their preparations at the same time.
The checklist is systematically worked off by the maintainer, AMS registers the completed tasks and the work order is successfully closed off with additional information from the maintainer.
If the instructions and information provided in a checklist do not lead to solving the problem, the maintainer has the possibility to query a database for possible solutions. At any time, the parties involved can deposit solutions in this database or search for descriptions of solutions that fit an actual situation.
The deposited solutions form the basis for a later reworking of the checklists and ensure the transfer of knowledge between staff members, service providers or both.
In order to systematically reduce reoccurrences of similar failures, problem, cause and remedy are recorded at the completion of each work order. This allows to conduct, at a later stage, analyses in the form of reports, derive measures for quality assurance and obtain accounting information.
If work orders are not completed within a defined time period, AMS automatically controls their escalation. In this way, no order can be overlooked and completion on time is guaranteed.
