Smart Analysis using SmartSCADA

Allows the assessment of plants by Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
The subsequent optimization is carried out using statistical methods based on "R".

Benefits

  • Easy integration of statistics in WinCC OA projects
  • All operations inside SCADA, without any programming
  • Guided way to train the model
  • “R” operations inside SCADA environment

Functions

Data mining is used to select relevant data from a large amount of data. Here the connections and dependencies between different process values are recognized and used for further classification. When classifying the selected data, results are linked and states are automatically recognized and named by the user. Statistical models are generated from this analysed data. These models can then be used for optimization in the plantThis can be done both with historical data and with real-time data.
In addition to the existing KPI, data mining and classification functions, SmartSCADA also provides a generic interface to "R", which allows data from the SCADA system to be processed directly using statistical methods. "R" is a free programming language for statistical data analysis.

Use cases

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Define KPIs, assign KPIs to devices with one click
  • Find dependencies by using correlation, find timeframes by filtering values, direct handover to statistical calculation
  • Classification based on a statistical model
  • Reuse model any time e.g. for new KPIs

Expand the possibilities to connect to external databases

In addition to existing ways to archive data based on internal value archive or existing RDB interface to ORACLE it is possible to connect to different other database formats based on specific backends for each of those. These new backends are not substituting the given possibilities, they are enlarging your storage footprint.

In recent version of Next Generation Archiver (NGA) it is possible to connect to Infux DB as well as PostgreSQL and MS SQL. Other systems are on the way to get integrated. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate customer specific data bases.

Not only is it possible to connect to one of these data bases – this opportunity is even open for all of them. In fact you can even combine the existing archiving solutions based in internal Archive and ORACLE with the newly given possibilities.

This allows to design solutions with different data bases handling different levels of control, e.g. on local level you can use internal data bases while collecting a centralized archiving based on Influx DB.

All in All, NGA connects to flexible and open data bases fitting from embedded services up to cloud-based supporting time series as well as enabling SQL-like queries.

As for now the possibility has been introduced to use several data bases in parallels, a new Version of the Add-On has been released. Next Generation Archiver (NGA) Premium can help you to maintain more than one backend and keeps your archiving on track.

Benefits

  • Use of future-proof NoSQL database technology
  • Support of time-series data optimized InfluxDB
  • In addition PostgreSQL and MS SQL are supported
  • Archiving of same data into local and central DB possible

Integrated Video management

WinCC OA VIDEO enables you to integrate complete video management functions natively into a SCADA project. This native integration allows the SCADA user to configure the video hardware and software in the same manner as the classical automation hardware.

The vendor neutral video standard ONVIF 2.0 (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is integrated in WinCC OA VIDEO, which allows the connection to different video hardware.

WinCC OA VIDEO is used to visualize video components and control cameras and PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) cameras either by means of a control panel or using a keyboard and mouse. Because of this, comprehensive monitoring and control of complex devices (e.g. traffic control devices) is possible from a single operator station. This ensures that problem situations can be identified at an early stage and operators can react to these appropriately.

The combination of SCADA and video surveillance is more cost effective than using separate video interfaces, and additional maintenance and operational expenditure are reduced. It also reduces training time for operators.

WinCC OA VIDEO can be integrated into any existing WinCC OA application in Windows or Linux and it can be configured and expanded online. In accordance with the WinCC OA concept, it can be set up as a redundant uni

Reducing costs and increasing efficiency in building automation

Vendor-independent and object oriented; the common factor between the building automation communications protocol BACnet and the SCADA system SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture. The WinCC OA BACnet package unites building control system and superordinated SCADA system. Offering direct access to the automation level, making WinCC OA BACnet the ideal solution for managing large and/or distributed facilities and properties.

Centralized operations and integration of all systems is a significant prerequisite for satisfying the efficiency and energy provision demands of facility and property management. The development of WinCC OA BACnet, a native BMS solution, addresses a wide spectrum of such customer requirements and demands. As WinCC OA BACnet is designed for an unlimited number of BACnet objects, and is especially suitable for complex projects in industry, airports, universities, hospitals, trade fairs etc.
A further advantage is that WinCC OA BACnet run both under Windows and Linux systems.

In comparison with island solutions, the virtually seamless compatibility between SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture and BACnet is the major advantage of the tool. Connected to the automation level network WinCC OA BACnet recognizes all BACnet objects existing in the network through the WinCC OA BACnet browser and automatically creates these in SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture, meaning the data is only present once in the system and can be efficiently processed online, offline or in mixed operation using a quick and efficient engineering toolkit.

The WinCC OA BACnet EDE importer with version management offers direct online data import from BACnet. Furthermore, with WinCC OA BACnet functional differences between individual device profiles are equated in SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture on the application level. WinCC OA BACnet supports a multitude of BACnet services such as data sharing, scheduling, device and network management as well as alarm and event notification; trending is also available as an option.

WinCC OA BACnet not only fulfills the BACnet vision, rather also offers a higher degree of functionality and efficient engineering compared with other conventional SCADA approaches.

The main task of the scheduler is to allow you to create, parameterize and administrate a number of schedules of either time or event triggered actions.
By using the scheduler a set of specific actions can be triggered by defining simple or complex conditions. You can define actions like:

  • Setting the value of a data point element to a predefined value

  • Showing a pop-up message

  • Initiating an alert in the alert screen

  • Setting values via recipes or

  • Executing a user-defined script

A scheduler condition can consist of:

  • Only one date

  • a set of dates

  • periodic events

  • a date combined with a value condition

  • only a single value condition etc.

The scheduler can be utilized in wide range of industries (e.g. building automation, facility management, wastewater treatment plants, ...) and can be deployed to perform the following tasks:

  • Heat- and climate control

  • Light control

  • Alarming issues

  • Switching between different operational modes

  • Recipes (time controlled activation of recipes)

  • Changing responsibilities (on-call service teams)

  • Time-dependent maintenance

  • Reminder function for operational staff

  • Cyclic diagnostics/reports

  • Automatic checking sequences (weekly siren test etc.)

  • Time-dependent and/or value dependent change of set points

When a relatively large number of input/set point values need to be transferred from the control system to the peripheral devices, then a recipe management system can simplify this process significantly. WinCC OA Recipes provides a range of user-friendly functions that meet all the following requirements:

  • New recipes can be created at runtime or obsolete recipes deleted

  • The recipe type can be changed at runtime and the changes adopted in all recipes of this type

  • All essential operations are also available as CTRL functions and can therefore also be used in customized panels

  • In addition, recipes can be imported, exported and edited as CSV files (e.g. using Excel)

  • Online values from a process display can be saved in an existing or new recipe

  • There is no limit to the number of recipes for one recipe type

  • An automatic test is performed to check the validity of the recipe type and that all elements of the recipe are defined

  • Can be used also in distributed systems

Ideal visualization and control for distributed systems

MAP Viewer enables the visualization of SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture objects in distributed systems on selected maps like Google Maps, Open StreetMap or customized solutions as well as GIS integration. This feature provides numerous advantages, particularly in geographical distributed systems, like in Water, Traffic, Oil & Gas or Energy.

The MAP Viewer allows widely distributed plants to be easily visualized geographically on a chosen map type. Individual geographic areas can be precisely monitored through automatic or manual zoom right down to the device level. Should system components be in warning or alarm status this is signified by colors, forms, symbols, or characters on the respective map, allowing fast and precise navigation to the interruption. The solution gain more informative value through combination of cartographic information with actual status signals of the plant. A much more efficient project design is also achieved through dynamic map material rather than static map frames.

With the used data and maps the SIMATIC WinCC Open Architecture objects become reality in the layers – any numbers of layer definable. Data and maps are available at many different vendors (e.g.: ESRI - Environmental Systems Research Institute). The Map viewer is fully integrated in WinCC OA and can be implemented in user interfaces by using a provided MAP EWO.

Advanced Maintenance Suite (AMS)

Advanced Maintenance Suite (AMS) is an easily configurable tool for efficient planning, management, execution and control of maintenance work and breakdown remedy. It saves money, improves the quality of your system and can be expanded by SCADA functionality.

With AMS

  • you will have an overview of all events (Event overview)

  • you will generate work orders automatically (Work order)

  • you will select the proper technicians (Technician selection)

  • the process routines will be recorded for each application (Action plan)

  • you define what will happen if nothing happens (Escalation methods)

  • you can optimise your spare parts inventory (Spare parts optimisation)

  • you will secure the consistent quality of the system (Quality assurance)

  • you can retrieve knowledge on push of a button (Knowledge database)

  • you will control your maintenance tasks more efficiently (Maintenance management)

For each scheduled maintenance task or spurious error event, checklists can be produced beforehand with detailed work instructions, possibly required spares, system and equipment documentation, as well as regulations.
When such an event occurs in a system, AMS automatically triggers a work order, which a dispatcher then assigns to a maintainer with the appropriate qualification. AMS informs the maintainer who can start immediately on the assigned task.
By means of the spare parts codes and tool names recorded in the system, stores are informed simultaneously with the maintainer and can start their preparations at the same time.
The checklist is systematically worked off by the maintainer, AMS registers the completed tasks and the work order is successfully closed off with additional information from the maintainer.
If the instructions and information provided in a checklist do not lead to solving the problem, the maintainer has the possibility to query a database for possible solutions. At any time, the parties involved can deposit solutions in this database or search for descriptions of solutions that fit an actual situation.
The deposited solutions form the basis for a later reworking of the checklists and ensure the transfer of knowledge between staff members, service providers or both.
In order to systematically reduce reoccurrences of similar failures, problem, cause and remedy are recorded at the completion of each work order. This allows to conduct, at a later stage, analyses in the form of reports, derive measures for quality assurance and obtain accounting information.
If work orders are not completed within a defined time period, AMS automatically controls their escalation. In this way, no order can be overlooked and completion on time is guaranteed.
