They combine the advantages of a SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC with the design of a SIMATIC ET 200 I/O system. Distributed Controllers can be mounted directly on the machine in small control boxes or in case of the ET 200pro even without them. In networked plants, connection to a production line’s central control cabinet is realized via PROFINET.

Distributed Controller - Features and benefits

Thanks to their compact design, Distributed Controllers are particularly suitable for series machine manufacturing. They can be accommodated directly on the machine. In networked plants, connection to a production line's central control cabinet is realized via PROFINET. The relocation of intelligence from the central control cabinet to Distributed Controllers on the individual stations entails positive effects on a plant's availability. Faults on one station can be rectified without leading to a standstill of the entire plant.
  • Fast command processing, depending on the CPU type
  • High-performance network connection via PROFINET IO IRT.
  • ET 200SP e.g. offers nternal data transfer with up to 100 Mbps, records analog values and output as of 50 µs and digital values and output as of 1 µs
  • The ET 200SP CPUs, just like the ET 200SP Open Controller 2, are flexibly expandable with the ET 200SP modules. Single-line expansion is possible with up to 64 modules.
  • Scalable memory up to 32 GB due to flash card  as load memory;  permitting additional functions such as firmware update, datalog and archives
  • The ET 200SP Open Controller Failsafe comes with a pre-installed fail-safe software controller or as a complete system with software controller and HMI software.
  • The fail-safe ET 200SP CPUs enable processing of standard and safety programs. They are certified according to EN 61508 (2nd Edition) for functional safety, and are suitable for use in safety-related applications up to SIL 3 according to IEC 62061 and PL e according to ISO 13849.

  • ET 200SP based distributed controllers can be equipped with BusAdapters with connection via FastConnect (FC) for machines and systems in which higher mechanical and/or EMC loads act on the devices.
  • The SIMATIC ET 200pro systems are small, rugged and powerful. With their high IP65/67 degree of protection they are ideally suited for use in harsh industrial environments, directly at the machine. The systems can be used in ambient temperatures of –25 to +55 °C and a relative air humidity of 5 to 100%.
  • The Motion Control functionality of the Open Controller encompasses all control tasks for the operation of drives as well as the acquisition of position values using position encoders. The tasks range from control of single axes to control of multiple coordinated axes.  The T-CPU open Controller extends this functionality by far.
  • ET 200SP and ET 200pro CPUs support Motion Control of up to 30 axes

SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller

The SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller is the first controller of this type to combine the functions of a PC-based software controller with visualization, PC applications and central I/Os in a compact device.

The already installed and preconfigured SIMATIC S7-1500 Software Controller, the PC-based version of SIMATIC S7-1500, is used for control. This controller is operated independently of Windows and thus ensures high system availability. This facilitates the controller's rapid start-up and supports Windows updates and reboot during ongoing operation. Even a failure of Windows does not have any impact on the controller. 

The SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller is available in a standard and failsafe version as well as technology CPU and fail-safe technology CPU.

The ET 200SP Open Controller comes with a pre-installed software controller or as a complete system with software controller and HMI software.

The SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller provides know-how and access protection and features important automation functions, for example for axis positioning, integrated system diagnostics or interfaces to Profinet.

The open controller is flexibly expandable by ET 200SP modules and is optimized for series machine manufacturing as well as for machines with distributed architecture.Thanks to its compact design, the ET 200SP Open Controller requires only minimum space and can be accommodated in compact control boxes directly on the machine.

The SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller allows for the realization of automation solutions with a particularly favorable cost-performance ratio. For instance, visualization can be simply realized via a SIMATIC Industrial Flat Panel connected via the graphics interface, optionally also with multitouch functionality. For commissioning purposes, mouse and keyboard can be directly connected via USB interfaces. At the same time, the Gigabit Ethernet interfaces support high-performance connection to higher-level networks.

SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller - Standard CPUs

The ET 200SP Open Controller is a robust, compact control system that combines the function of an ET 200SP controller with a PC-based platform. The controller can be used to control special and series machines or even decentrally to control systems.

The I / O modules of the ET 200SP can be plugged in centrally and communicate via the integrated backplane bus. S7 communication can be set up via the PROFINET adapters of the ET 200SP system and decentralized peripherals can be connected. The PROFIBUS CM DP module extends the CPU 1515SP PC with a PROFIBUS communication.

For additional HMI functionality, the CPU 1515SP PC + HMI with preinstalled WinCC Runtime Advanced is offered.

SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller - Failsafe CPUs

The SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller with failsafe functionality is a PC-based controller in the design of the ET 200SP I/O system. Here, too, the pre-installed S7-1500 software controller is used as failsafe version with Safety Integrated. The integrated safety function makes the system very compact and saves space in the control cabinet because the additional safety controller that is usually required is not necessary here. Its compact design and modular expansion option make this controller particularly well suited for series production of machinery.

SIMATIC ET 200SP Open Controller with technology functions

The range of SIMATIC S7-1500 T-CPUs is expanded with the CPU 1515SP PC2 T and CPU1515SP PC2 TF Open Controllers, which combine standard, safety and motion control functionality in one device.  These are based on the hardware of the CPU 1515SP PC2 Open Controller, and thus combine the advantages of advanced motion control functionality with an integrated Windows environment.
Previous motion control functions, such as absolute gearing and camming, are now joined by kinematics control with up to four interpolating axes as required, for example, for pick-and-place tasks. The system offers predefined kinematics, such as cartesian portals, roller pickers, SCARA robots, and delta pickers. A free transformation interface allows seamless integration into the user’s kinematics.
Users parameterize the kinematics with a graphically supported and intuitively operable configuration editor, and program the movements in space in the usual SIMATIC STEP 7 programming environment via standardized function modules in accordance with PLCopen.

In combination with the servodrive systems SINAMICS V90 (with Profinet), SINAMICS S210, and SINAMICS S120 even sophisticated motion control tasks can be accomplished efficiently.

The SIMATIC ET 200SP based distributed controller

The distributed controllers ET 200SP CPUs combine compactness and flexibility. Especially in the medium performance range for machines with distributed intelligence or series machines with limited space, the distributed controllers are the perfect solution for standard and fail-safe applications.
 

The CPUs have the same functionalities as the CPU 1511 / CPU 1513 of the S7-1500 controller family, such as the CPU. For example, the integrated trace function, integrated system diagnostics, integrated security, web server or full symbolic programming.

Thanks to the I-Device functionality, the connection to a higher-level CPU can be carried out in exactly the same way as with a standard interface module. The ET 200SP station is distinguished by a noise-resistant design thanks to short signal and encoder wiring and low wiring effort.

The CPUs support additional functions such as PROFIenergy, isochronous mode, configuration control (option handling) and DP master.

Standard CPUs - CPU 1510SP-1 PN and CPU 1512SP-1 PN

Two interface modules with integrated CPU and PROFINET connection are available for SIMATIC ET 200SP.

With the 3 integrated Ethernet ports, the connection adapters can be flexibly selected with the bus adapters. The CPUs can be used as a PROFINET IO controller or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-Device)  in the discrete manufacturing technology.
The 151xSP CPUs can be expanded with ET 200SP standard modules as well as decentrally via PROFINET with any ET 200 systems.

The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface is designed as a 3-port switch so that a line structure can be established in the plant via ports 1 and 2 and also a PG / PC or HMI device can be connected via port 3.

Failsafe CPUs - CPU 1510SP F-1 PN and CPU 1512SP F-1 PN


The failsafe ET 200SP CPUs enable standard and safety program processing. They are certified to EN 61508 (2nd Edition) for Functional Safety and are suitable for use in safety-related applications up to SIL 3 according to IEC 62061 and PL e according to ISO 13849.

The 151xSP F CPUs can be expanded with ET 200SP standard and fail-safe modules as well as decentrally via PROFINET / PROFIsafe with any ET 200 systems.

For IT security, additional password protection has been set up for F configuration and F program. The CPUs can be used as a PROFINET IO controller or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-Device) in discrete manufacturing technology. The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface is designed as a 3-port switch so that a line structure can be established in the plant via ports 1 and 2 and also a PG / PC or HMI device can be connected via port 3.

Standard CPUs - CPU 1513pro-2 PN and CPU 1516pro-2 PN

The standard CPUs are the right choice for applications that also contain distributed automation structures alongside central I/O and require protection level IP 65/67.

They can be used as a PROFINET IO Controller or as distributed intelligence (PROFINET I-Device). The integrated PROFINET IO IRT interface is designed as a 3-port switch so that a linear topology can be set up in the system.

The additional integrated PROFINET IO RT interface with separate IP address can be used, for example, for network separation to operate additional PROFINET IO devices.

In addition, the CPU offer comprehensive control functionalities as well as the ability to connect drives via standardized PLC-open blocks.

The ET 200pro system can be used for controlling autonomous technological functional units, e.g.:

  • Conveyor systems, switches
  • Lifting stations
  • Positioning tasks
  • Workstations in the powertrain segment of the automotive industry

The CPU's potential applications are therefore extended manufacturing cells with preprocessing, where stand-alone operation is also an option. Cabinet-free installations are possible due to the high IP67 degree of protection.
