Project Haystack: The leading tagging standard to unlock the value of data

The Internet of Things (IoT) allows any device, system or buildings to produce data. Yet, remarkably, the language of that data is not yet standardized. Sometimes, trying to find the right way to communicate between devices or systems can be a challenge.
Project Haystack is an open-source initiative, which seeks to standardize the way semantic tagging and data-modelling is used in smart buildings, for various applications including HVAC, power management, lighting, shading, metering, fire detection, security, access control, CCTV, water leak detection, space management, asset management etc.
For the greater good
The not-for-profit corporation was founded by Siemens, J2 Innovations, A Siemens Company, among others, with the purpose of fostering the common association of technology companies developing data for smart buildings and smart devices.
By standardizing semantic data models and web services, it becomes much easier to unlock value from the vast quantity of data being generated by our smart devices. And as the leading, most widely deployed tagging standard, Project Haystack offers clear benefits. Active working groups are also extending the scope of the definitions to cover additional data types.
