A perfect place to secure prosperity

Port Manatee, Florida

Port Manatee in Manatee, Florida, is one of the state’s largest and fastest growing deepwater seaports. Located in the eastern Gulf of Mexico at the entrance to Tampa Bay, Port Manatee is also regarded as the closest US deepwater seaport to the Panama Canal – providing shippers with speedy access to Pacific Rim markets. The port and its partners move approximately 8 million tons of containerized, break-bulk, bulk and project cargo each year including fresh produce, forestry products, petroleum products, citrus juice products, fertilizer, steel, aluminum, automobiles, cement, aggregate and more.

Challenge

Port Manatee approached Siemens for a solution that unifies various subsystems into a single user interface providing command and control functionality over port security operations. A specific request was for video escort of non-TWIC visitors as well as audit trail event logging of daily security operations (TWIC, which stands for Transportation Worker Identification Credential, is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for all personnel who need access to secure areas of US maritime facilities and vessels.).

Solution

The solution provided by Siemens is the Siveillance Vantage with integration to Omnicast Live Viewer and SiPass. The Security platform is fully adaptable to the customer’s requirements. Furthermore, it offers the highest reliability with proven redundancy concepts to avoid downtime.

Benefits

Thanks to Siveillance Vantage, a central monitoring station within Port Manatee's Security Operations Center is able to command and control the following events in line with standard operational procedures:

  • Receive notification of rising temperatures within a tenant’s refrigeration
  • Receive notification of a fire
  • Send notification of temperature and fire events to necessary personnel via e-mail/SMS
  • Issue notification of access control events
  • Dispatch security/safety personnel
  • Log all visitors
  • Video escort non-TWIC visitors
  • Escort event transferring with roving security units
