Protection and control system studies
No matter how well designed, faults will always occur in electrical power systems. These can lead to severe damage of installations and equipment and may even cause personal injury. Accordingly, defining an adequate protection system is an indispensable and integral part of power system design. Protection coordination means selecting and setting of protective devices so that they are sensitive enough to operate when needed, and selective enough to not operate, or provide adequate margin, when not needed. A protection coordination study or security assessment must consider the network topology, network elements, different operating conditions, utility practices and regulatory requirements.
NERC PRC-027-1 – Coordination of Protection Systems for Performance During Faults
NERC Reliability Standard PRC-027-1 was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on June 7, 2018 and will go into effect on October 1, 2020. North American transmission owners, generator owners and distribution providers seeking a timely, cost-effective and proven solution can leverage Siemens Power Technologies International’s (Siemens PTI’s) vast industry expertise to comply with the PRC-027-1 reliability standard. Using PSS®CAPE or SIGUARD®PSA, we can design a customized solution that fits individual needs.
