PQ – Basic enables SIPROTEC 5 users to get additional information. It measures and registers basic power quality data of the electric power system. Why!

 

More and more, power quality problems lead to unexpected risks like faults, damages or production down times. 

 

Some examples:

  • Circuit Breaker operations within the grid, can cause voltage dips
  • Feeding of renewable energies can lead to voltage swells
  • Nonlinear loads, and huge machines in Industry, could cause harmonic distortion

PQ – Basic detects power quality issues of many application domains, which produce or are sensitive to power quality issues. That applies for utilities as well as for industries or critical infrastructure.

 

Now SIPROTEC 5 integrates PQ – Basic  in one device and system:

PQ – Basic functions:

  • Voltage variation: dip, swell, interruption (IEC 61000-4-30 class S)
  • Voltage unbalance (IEC 61000-4-30 class S)
  • Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and harmonics for voltage and current up to 20th
  • Total Demand Distortion (TDD)

These PQ – Basic functions are fully implemented in the communication, logging, HMI and usability of SIPROTEC 5 and support 3-phase power systems with phase selective evaluation:

  • Accessable via HMI of device and remote by DIGSI 5, and CFC logic editor
  • Transferred by SIPROTEC 5 supported protocols, typically via IEC 61850 for further processing or documentation
  • Recorded in fault records, trigger via CFC (starting condition can be configured to binary Input of external start condition of fault recorder)
  • Warning signals at predefined threshold
  • Abnormal PQ data can be routed in operational and user defined logs, and shown at the device display and DIGSI 5 information lists. Data is saved on non-volatile memory in the SIPROTEC 5 device
  • Logs can be exported to external systems with DIGSI 5
