By revolutionizing the traditional approach to maintaining transmission network models, PSS®MOD's secure, web-based application and central data repository allow multiple users to submit, view, validate and audit planning model data including time-bound network changes organized as multiphase projects.
Submit, review, validate, and exchange data with easePSS®MOD is used by Independent System Operators (ISOs), Regional Transmission Operators (RTOs), Planning Authorities with remote members, and transmission companies with local users. PSS®MOD allows you to coordinate the submission of network model data from local and/or remote users and provides access to complete study cases “on demand” for any point in time.

Short Circuit Data Manager
PSS®MOD gives you the ability to manage PSS®E Short Circuit Data (i.e. SEQ Files). Sequence Files can be imported into PSS®MOD Administrator and associated with the base case (via the bus number) or a specific project. PSS®MOD takes care to construct and export the correct Sequence File associated with the exported PSS®E case during the Case Build function.

New features in PSS®MOD 11.3

New features in PSS®MOD 11.2
PSS®MOD enhanced handling for Alternate Base Case
To continue the journey to one-stop-shop for network data, PSS®MOD v11.2 now supports alternate base cases as in a separate network and can now handle projects separated by base cases. This will allow users to store different network areas, e.g. Eastern or Western Interconnected Areas, or also unique detailed PSS®E models of the same network in one PSS®MOD instance.
Improved behavior for Administrative changes
In PSS®MOD v11.2, the introduced administrative user role has made the tasks for the data administrator significantly easier. With this release, further enhancements have been made to simplify the processes according to the customer requests. In this role, administrative users are now able to change project properties without restarting the validation project to simply correct potential data errors.
Extended support for Node Breaker modelling
With more and more companies starting to use Node Breaker modelling, PSS®MOD and PSS®MOD File Builder are improving on the necessary support for this extended functionality. With this release, additional elements are fully supported - not only by the project handling, but also for the file conversion between PRJ, IDV and PY, e.g. DC Lines, FACTS, Multi-Terminal DC Lines and Voltage Source Converters.
Security Updates for Third-Party Components
Third party components need to be upgraded from time-to-time to avoid security concerns or vulnerabilities with older versions. To ensure the best security possible, this release will introduce Python 3.9 for PSS®MOD and PSS®MOD File Builder.
New features in PSS®MOD 11.1
Further enhanced support for PSS®E v35
PSS®E v35 introduced several big improvements which also included a new file format called rawx. With PSS®MOD 11.1, it’s now possible to import not only the raw but also the rawx format for PSS®E v35 files. This functionality is limited to the PSS®E fields and will be extended to the user defined fields in the future. This functionality will support the users in transition to the latest PSS®E version to also move on to the latest file format.
Simplifying the administration of PSS®MOD by adding more capabilities to the administrative user
In order to make the administration process of PSS®MOD easier, the administrative user will get more rights in the new product version. With v11.1 it will be possible to change the status of submissions with this user rights to allow a correction without resubmitting everything. This will improve the workflows and will reduce the necessary work.
Option to downgrade projects to a previous PSS®E version
MOD 11.1 will now allow a downgrade of projects from the PSS®E version 34 to 33. This simplifies the version migration for all customers and will allow a faster adaption of v34. It will also be limited by PSS®E elements, so that not all elements or projects can be downgraded easily, some of it might need to have manual interaction to work probably.
PSS®MOD Filebuilder redesign to make it easier to install - Filebuilder communication with PSS®E to support PSS®E dependent features has been updated to avoid the usage of the RPC interface. This will allow an easier installation as you no longer need a port release from the IT department. Now PSS®E as a service runs in the background in embedded mode and communicates with PSS®MOD Filebuilder in foreground for PSS®E related activities. A considerable improvement in performance has been observed for the same.
Project/Phase Additional Data can be populated from PSS®MOD Filebuilder - Synchronize additional Project and Phase information defined in PSS®MOD with Filebuilder. This can be done by downloading “MODConfig.xml” from PSS®MOD and placing it in Filebuilder installed directory. This additional information can be populated in Filebuilder and can be opted to be part of “user defined fields” for project and phase headers.
New features in PSS®MOD 11.0
*Full support for PSS®E v35 - Leverage all the new improvements in the newest version!
PSS®E v35 introduced several big improvements which can now be leveraged in PSS®MOD 11.0, such as having multiple switch shunts on one bus. Customers can now confidently shift to the latest version of PSS®E with the full support of their centralized data management software. For consistency, MOD Filebuilder will also fully support PSS®E v35 and users can create project files for latest PSS®E version.
Configure Profile attributes according to your specific needs
In order to make the tool more configurable, the profiles used in a PSS®MOD instance need to be changeable according to the customer requirements. A user can now configure PSS®MOD according to their needs with the new option to specify all required attributes for a profile. The configuration is stored in the database and is exchanged with MOD Filebuilder via the configuration file.

To achieve the goal to be a one-stop-shop for all PSS®E model users, all necessary files must be housed within the network model management database. Experience the improved usability of the workflows with the new capabilities to store sld-files in the PSS®MOD database and even submit sld-files with each project. Those submittals can be automatically included in a case definition, so that PSS®MOD end users can download a full package, including those diagrams.

Consume multiple MOD config files - This new features improves efficiency especially for MOD Filebuilder users who are required to submit data to various network model management (PSS®MOD) environments, for example, their own and an ISO model management system. To improve the user experience, MOD Filebuilder is now able to consume and use multiple MODconfig-files – users are then able to easily select which one to utilize. With this capability the creation of a project to submit to different model management system has become even easier and more user friendly.
Streamlined distribution of the latest version through PSS®MODweb -
The distribution and consistent use of the recommended MOD Filebuilder version amongst users has always been a challenge. All users who submit projects should be using the same version to make submission tracking and error tracking easier. With PSS®MOD 11, MOD Filebuilder can now be downloaded directly from PSS®MODweb. With this functionality every user can download the recommended MOD Filebuilder version directly after logging into PSS®MOD.

Previous release highlights
Features and Enhancements released with PSS®MOD 10.3
Ability to lock data submittal by User Role - Start using the new options for locking data submittal and editing. Administrators now have the option to temporarily disable data submission and editing by user role. This will allow a more reliable case build as no additional data or status changes will be seen during that process.
Added Administrative User roles - A new privilege added to user roles allows a “super user” the ability to submit changes for data outside their group. This is intended to assist administrators in making changes to submissions on behalf of users when they are unable to make changes to their data. Any changes will be logged, and notifications will be sent to users when the data is edited. All data must then go through the standard review process.
Improved case build time with parallel processing - The case build time for multiple cases has been improved by parallelizing the work (e.g., for 20 cases an improvement around 33% can be achieved).
Support for rawx format
Just like PSS®MOD, MOD File Builder handles the rawx files for file comparison. This will allow the data submitter to generate project files out of rawx files and to use MOD File Builder to compare multiple rawx files based on the standard PSS®E attributes.
With the latest version, it’s now possible to convert a PRJ file from PSS®E v34 to a v33 IDV or python script. This functionality will allow a mixed PSS®E version usage within a PSS®MOD area even. Users need to be aware that not all elements can be converted to the previous PSS®E version due to missing compatibility. Nevertheless, this functionality will simplify the upgrade process to v34.
