Siemens Vacuum Recloser 3AD combines the latest technology in vacuum switching and electronic control. It is ready for future smart grids, using state-of-the art communication to exchange data a lightning speed.

It is based on decades of experience in circuit-breaker design, protection relay development and network planning. They meet all the requirements for outdoor use in accordance with the recloser standards IEEE C37.60 and IEC 62271-111.

 

Reclosers are used in overhead lines and in substations. Like circuit-breakers they are capable of switching normal and fault currents. They are equipped with sensors and a controller being the protection and control device. In case of a temporary line fault, they can trip and reclose up to nine times, thus avoiding longer network interruptions.

 

As outdoor devices they are pole or structure-mounted and exposed to environment and weather. Extensive testing beyond the recloser standard has proven the suitability for application in various climates to ensure long service life.

Description

State of the art in vacuum recloser technology

The Vacuum Recloser 3AD combines cutting-edge technology with quality engineering expertise in relay protection schemes for which Siemens is known. It consists of two main components: The switch unit, where Siemens offers its customers two designs, up to 27 kV and 38 kV, and a control cubicle., which includes the protection and control units as well as electronics and auxiliary circuits. The control cubicle is also available in two different designs depending on the chosen controller.

The 7SR224 controller based on the Siemens Reyrolle protection relay family provides protection, control, monitoring, measuring and metering with integrated input and output logic, data logging, as well as fault reports. Communication access to relay functionality is via a front USB port for local PC connection or a rear electrical RS485 port for remote connection. Additional rear port options including RS232 and optical ports are available. Access to the user level menus and data is protected by multilevel password authentication.

As a second controller version, Siemens offers its customers the SIPROTEC 7SC80. Local communication with a PC is possible via the USB-DIGSI interface at the front, and also via network communication protocols. Furthermore, the 7SC80 controller offers a web-based HMI for local and remote access to the reclosers in order to monitor measured values and indications, as well as to perform switching operations.
