Already at the beginning of the planning process, the determination of how the energy is distributed at the loads sets an essential course for the safety and efficiency of the energy supply of the plant. The specifications have far-reaching effects on construction costs as well as on subsequent operation and maintenance.

 

In the course, the interrelationships between the different possibilities of network structure and their security of supply as well as the effects on the different dimensioning parameters in network planning are shown. In addition, the most frequently used energy sources and their influence on network planning are examined. 

June 21, 2022 | Power supply systems and Central Earthing Points

At the beginning of the electrical planning, the system planning must be carried out according to the regionally defined power supply system, or a suitable power supply system must be selected with the corresponding option. For this purpose, it is necessary to know and understand the effects and requirements of the different power supply systems, as these strongly influence the net structure and the choice of protective devices.

 

A special feature of the TN power supply system is the central earthing point. This holds great potential for danger as well as building damage in the long term if it is not properly integrated into the network.

June 22, 2022 | Cable dimensioning according to IEC 60364

As soon as a grid structure has been defined and the supply routes for electricity consumers are known, they must be supplied with power via cables or rails. Depending on the selected network system and taking into account other factors such as installation method, maintenance of function, etc., the cables are defined and dimensioned in conjunction with the protective components.

 

The course conveys the underlying laws and standards on the basis of which a definition and dimensioning is carried out.

June 23, 2022 | Selectivity and Back up Protection

Plants are often designed without paying particular attention to selectivity. In the end, this often has no consequences, as there is no fundamental obligation to set up a selective network. In the regulations, this requirement is specified for certain building areas or parts of the plant or it is required by the customer on a flat-rate basis. However, one thing these systems have in common is that the selective net design is not already implemented in the planning, or that an optimization of the system after it has been built is almost impossible, or only possible with large-scale conversion measures, corresponding costs and disruptions in the operating process.
