SVA 362 voltage transformer

First clean air voltage transformer order for the United States!

Environmental safety and maintenance free – Six SVA 362 voltage transformers with clean air insulation will be delivered to a customer in the South-Central United States.

Reduce emissions without compromising performance

More and more grid operators worldwide are committed to reducing their equipment emissions – especially SF6 gas because of its high global warming potential (GWP).

Our customer, a large utility in the South Central United States, wanted to reduce emissions without giving up the reliable performance of its conventional products. At the beginning of 2020, the customer contacted Trench, a Siemens subsidiary, about the latest advancements within Siemens instrument transformer portfolio.

Six SVA 362 voltage transformers with clean air-insulation for customer in the USA

In response, Siemens Energy Transmission recommended its clean air-insulated products, especially Trench’s new blue instrument transformers. The first clean air-insulated voltage transformer with voltage ranges up to 420 kV was launched beginning of 2019. Meanwhile, approximately 100 units of clean air insulated instrument transformers have been sold in Europe.

A combined sales team explained that Trench’s blue instrument transformers do not contribute to global warming. They rely on clean air-insulation instead of SF6 gas, while incorporating proven gas-insulated technology and the same reliable performance provided by all Trench instrument transformers. The explosion proof, blue instrument transformers are maintenance free and do not require monthly F-gas-reporting.

The customer was very satisfied with the quality and reliability of the blue instrument transformers and placed an order for six SVA 362 voltage transformers with clean air-insulation.

The customer benefits from environmental friendliness, outstanding performance and no maintenance

The first blue instrument transformers will be manufactured at the Trench factory in Bamberg, Germany. They are scheduled to arrive at the customer site in November 2020.

Emission freedom during operation and plain handling of our blue instrument transformers make them popular for new installations and replacements. I am extremely happy we could convince the first US customer to order the most environmentally friendly Instrument transformers on the market.
Risto Trifunoski and Keith Armstrong, project leaders

The customer was not only satisfied with the environmental friendliness of the blue instrument transformer, but also retained the same outstanding reliable performance of conventional products.

Siemens Energy is committed to providing best in class products and paving the way for emission-free transmission installations. This first US order for our blue instrument transformers highlights our pioneering role to eliminate SF6 and other greenhouse gases in transmission products.
