Transport for London (TfL) and Siemens Mobility have today unveiled the detailed design of the new generation Tube trains for the Piccadilly line, which will soon be in production to replace the existing 1970s fleet.

The Circle at Zurich Airport is a new 30,000 m2 building complex that features shops, restaurants, services, hotels and a conference center under one roof. Siemens installed over 30,000 components for the building and energy technology of the large complex, making an active contribution to its sustainable design. The company’s technology ensures the daily 25,000 visitors to The Circle experience a safe and energy-efficient environment.

Siemens has become one of very few companies worldwide to sign up for four ambitious sustainability initiatives at once: We’re supporting three initiatives led by the Climate Group – RE100, EP100 and EV100. In addition, we joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, we commit to a science-based reduction pathway along our entire value chain. In this way, we’re ensuring that our climate-protection efforts are in harmony with the Paris Climate Agreement’s highest level of ambition.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure released its new public fast charger Sicharge D. It is suited for highway and urban fast charging stations, city parking as well as shopping malls and provides one of highest peak efficiencies on the market at 96 percent, scalable charging power and dynamic power sharing.

The “Bergkristall” (Mountain Crystal), a mountain hut situated at an altitude of 2,883 meters in the Monte Rosa Massif of the Valais Alps, has been largely energy self-sufficient since 2010. Along with thermal solar collectors, a photovoltaic system integrated in the hut’s southern facade ensures a high degree of energy self-sufficiency and a reliable energy supply. Since 2010, all of the building’s performance data, such as solar energy generated and battery capacity, have been bundled in Siemens Navigator, the cloud-based building performance platform.

The 84th train for the Rhine-Ruhr Express (RRX) infrastructure and mobility project was handed over right on schedule. The trains were originally ordered from Siemens Mobility in 2015. The RRX order, consisting of trains and a service contract, has a total volume of €1.7 billion and marks the largest order received by Siemens Mobility to date in the sector of regional rail passenger transport in Germany.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure won a major contract from Hamburger Hochbahn, the largest local transport provider in the Hanseatic city. Siemens will equip two of the six carports at the Alsterdorf bus depot with a total of 96 charging points as well as medium and low-voltage technology. Operations are scheduled to start in summer 2021. With a total of 240 parking spaces, it is one of the largest and most modern bus depots for electric buses in Europe.

The Mireo is the new, eco-friendly and economical regional and commuter train from Siemens Mobility, which offers a comfortable and inspiring riding experience. The first fleet has been in operation since June 2020 in the Rhine Valley in Baden-Württemberg and over 180 trains have already been ordered in the meantime.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) has teamed up with Auto-Info to jointly develop a modular COVID-19 examination unit. The mobile lab structure and system have been designed to avoid contamination among patients or from patients to medical staff by using the Climatix IC platform, a flexible and scalable advanced HVAC control solution from Siemens.

Siemens has achieved its declared intermediate target for carbon reduction. The company has reduced the carbon footprint of its own value chain by more than half (54%) since 2014. Siemens has thus exceeded – by four percentage points – its goal of halving its global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2020. Including Siemens Energy, the company has reduced its carbon emissions by around 1.2 million tons of CO2 compared to its 2014 levels. Four levers are being used to reduce carbon emissions: expanding the energy efficiency program, using distributed energy systems, purchasing green power, and reducing emissions in the vehicle fleet. Siemens intends to achieve climate neutrality in its business operations by 2030. The company has recently published these details and other up-to-date information on sustainability.

In partnership with Tower Transit, a bus operator in London and part of the SeaLink Travel Group, Siemens Smart Infrastructure provided the charging infrastructure for 37 new fully-electric double decker buses in London. Westbourne Park garage, on the Great Western Road, is the operator’s first depot in London incorporating fully electric routes with power infrastructure, maintenance and charging facilities. Bus routes 23 and C3 operate from the Westbourne Park site, with the first few Optare Metrodecker zero-emission double-deckers already in operation, the remaining fleet is expected to be in service in the next months.

Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Siemens Mobility are driving forward the climate-friendly transition in transport and are testing the use of hydrogen for rail for the first time. The aim is to test a completely new overall system consisting of a newly developed train and a newly designed filling station.

The Managing Board of Siemens AG has approved a special worldwide COVID payment to all employees except senior managers. This decision honors the workforce’s extraordinary performance during the pandemic, which Siemens has handled excellently so far – thanks also to its employees. The company is also making this payment to live up to its role as a responsible employer during these special times.

In conjunction with their ongoing research cooperation, Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Netze BW GmbH, headquartered in Stuttgart, have co-developed an intelligent and environmentally-friendly distribution substation. For the first time, the new station combines the F-gas-free 24 kilovolt (kV) ring main unit (RMU) from the Siemens blue GIS portfolio with a 630 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) distribution grid transformer.

Siemens Smart Infrastructure and WUN H2 GmbH signed a contract to build one of the largest hydrogen production plants in Germany. It will be built in Wunsiedel in the north of Bavaria. With a power intake of six megawatts in the initial development phase, the plant will run solely on renewable energy and will be CO2-free.

Siemens AG and the Volkswagen Group are jointly donating €5 million for immediate humanitarian aid to displaced people in Moria and Greece. The situation for people has worsened dramatically since fire ravaged the refugee camp in Moria on Lesbos. They have been given makeshift shelter on ships belonging to the Greek Navy and in provisional tents. The funds will be given to the German Red Cross (DRK) to support the comprehensive aid initiatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for displaced people in Greece.
