Trends and topics
Decarbonizing the data center industry
Driven by strong sustainability goals, the data center industry is at the forefront of exploring cleaner technologies to turn operations green. Through long-term Power Purchasing Agreements (PPA) with electricity providers data center operators can run their infrastructure almost decarbonized on green energy. The only hurdle remains the backup power systems that are traditionally powered by fossil fuels. This transition requires a new approach: Li-Ion battery energy storage systems (BESS) offer a viable solution to replace diesel gensets and achieve fully decarbonized operations, alongside with further grid-related benefits.
Everything and everyone is getting connected. Data centers have the highest growth rate of any infrastructure market and we have the right offering and knowledge to help you to increase your competitiveness.Laurent Tognazzi, Global Head of Data Centers Siemens

Data centers are critical components of modern enterprises and should be used to drive business, not hinder it. In these environments, it is not only essential to have continuous monitoring in place, but also to effectively manage capacity and discover hidden potential.

The growth of a data center or data center network is too often constrained by its own design, management practices, production objectives, and resource priorities. When we treat the data center more as an organic entity rather than a human endeavor, we constrain its evolution, to the detriment of both its operators and its customers. In this report, we call your attention to five such constraints that may be commonly found in data center growth plans.
