This is where it is created, managed, archived and documented. Process and production engineers, automation engineers and instrumentation engineers can access the applications of the Engineering Toolset via the SIMATIC Manager and are empowered to plan and engineer in their familiar terminology.

Reduce project planning times drastically: The SIMATIC Manager offers modern possibilities for parallel work when several project engineers or teams work on one project at the same time. With concurrent engineering, several project engineers can work on a project synchronously without first dividing it into sub-projects. The SIMATIC Manager also allows so-called multi-project engineering: An extensive project is divided into several sub-projects according to technological aspects, which are then processed in parallel by several teams. Individual projects can be added to or removed from a multi-project at any time.

Integrated user management, detailed access control and a change log with a record of all accesses - the protection of know-how and intellectual property has top priority! The user administration and access control integrated in the engineering system with SIMATIC Logon in combination with the detailed records in the change log provides the plant operator with excellent system support for the verification of changes. Access control for the engineering environment ensures that only authorized users can make changes to the configuration. This is crucial for meeting special industry-specific requirements, e.g. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 or GAMP.

The SIMATIC Version Cross Manager very conveniently determines deviations between different statuses (versions) of a single or multi-project and makes them visible. This tool conveniently determines differences between diverse versions (statuses) of individual or multiple projects by:

  • Detection of missing, additional or different objects via comparing hardware configuration, communication, technological hierarchy, CFC/SFC plans, SFC details, device types, messages, global variables, signals and flow sequences.
  • Graphical representation of the comparison results in a combination of tree and table
  • Clear structuring according to the technological hierarchy of the plant
  • Colour coding the differences

The structure of the engineering system adapts flexibly to the respective structure of the plant or the size of the project. The possibilities range from local installation to integrated solutions:

The CFC Editor is the tool for planning Continuous Function Charts (CFCs). Supported by high-performance auto-routing and an integrated message configuration, which can be used to place, parameterize and interconnect pre-assembled blocks on CFC drawings. In addition to convenient editing functions, the range of functions of the CFC editor also includes powerful test and commissioning functions as well as individually configurable documentation options.

For graphical project planning and commissioning of sequence controls for discontinuous production processes, rely on Sequential Function Chart (SFC) and separate sequential controls. You can use flow controls, for example, to describe the manufacturing specifications of products as event-driven processes (recipes). The SFC Editor is the tool for planning discontinuous production processes. It has a convenient editor as well as powerful test and commissioning functions. The sequence controls are then transferred to an automation system and executed there.

Basic elements for the graphical-based project planning of automation solutions are blocks, faceplates and symbols organized, preconfigured and tested in process control libraries. Function modules are standardized software modules that model process equipment such as valves or motors in terms of control technology. They form the software basis for the control of your plant and are clearly organized in libraries for engineering and program implementation. The use of these library elements contributes significantly to minimizing the engineering effort and thus the project costs.
