Safety Integrated: Perfectly integrated with SIMATIC PCS 7

Process automation with integrated safety
The complex processes in the process industry are associated with high demands on functional safety: Where any malfunction or malfunction of automation systems could have serious consequences, efficient safety technology is required that reliably eliminates sources of danger and minimizes risks. With a reliable safety instrumented system (SIS), which detects critical conditions throughout the plant at an early stage and, if necessary, returns the plant to a safe state at any time, the risks for people, the environment and the plant can be minimized.
Comprehensive protection in production
Our SIS are based on standard components of automation and drive technology, which are interlinked and extended by safety functions. The result is Safety Integrated - a comprehensive range for simple implementation, operation and maintenance of safe applications. With Safety Integrated for Process Automation, Siemens offers a broad range of products and solutions for safe, fault-tolerant applications in the process industry. It covers the entire safety-related functionality – from safe instrumentation through safe and fault-tolerant control to the actuator (e.g. positioners, valves and pumps). The seamless integration of all these products into the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system enables highly efficient and flexible automation and safety applications.SIMATIC Safety Integrated for Process Automation offers a full range of safe, fault-tolerant and high-available products for the process industry. All system components are TÜV certified according to IEC 61508 up to SIL 3 and correspond to the highest safety level for process applications. The safety system from Siemens comprises safe controllers, safe bus systems and distributed I/O as well as safe instrumentation. This allows flexible, modular and integrated solutions to be implemented for the process and manufacturing industry.
Safety Integrated for Process Automation also enables optimum integration of the Safety Instrumented System into the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system: The Basic Process Control System (BPCS) and the safety-related system are based on the same hardware. The entire potential of Safety Integrated can be exploited through its unique combination with the universal SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system. However, thanks to the modularity and flexibility of Safety Integrated, the degree of integration can be defined individually. Safety-related SIMATIC PCS 7 automation systems and decentralized peripherals can be easily networked via PROFINET IO.
With SIMATIC Safety Matrix, Siemens offers a TÜV-certified Safety Lifecycle Management Tool for safety applications up to SIL 3 according to IEC 61508. The tool can be used in all phases of the safety lifecycle and offers many advantages, e.g. in the operating phase: The Viewer of the SIMATIC Safety Matrix, which can be operated on the SIMATIC PCS 7 Operator Station, enables simple and intuitive operation and monitoring of the safety application. The optimized operator guidance ensures that the operator can react quickly and specifically to incidents. He also has the possibility to simulate sensors and actuators, especially in case of maintenance. By using the SIMATIC Safety Matrix Viewer, plant downtimes can be reduced. Process-relevant events and alarms are transmitted to the operator system of the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system and integrated into the alarm system. This enables the joint archiving of alarms and messages from the Basic Process Control System (BPCS) and security system.
