SIMATIC ET 200MP

The decentralized I/O system for the SIMATIC S7-1500 Advanced Controller
The simple use of SIMATIC ET 200MP is exemplified by a modular and scalable station with the SIMATIC S7-1500 I/O modules in a distributed configuration. The modules have high channel density and low parts variance. As a result, ordering, logistics and spare-parts inventory are considerably simplified.
The perfect supplement for your Advanced Controller
The ET 200MP I/O system in IP20 degree of protection is scalable and is used both as centralized I/O with S7-1500 and in distributed configurations with PROFINET or PROFIBUS. Each station can accommodate up to 30 I/O modules. The modules have low parts variance and the front connector for all 35-mm wide modules. As a result, ordering, logistics and spare-parts inventory are considerably simplified.A benchmark in usability
SIMATIC ET 200MP is a modular, distributed I/O system that can be used in a wide variety of applications. SIMATIC ET 200MP complies with IP 20 degree of protection and is intended for installation in a control cabinet.

At the forefront in terms of performance
The IO system for a S7-1500 Advanced controller has to be a benchmark in performance to make it an outstanding control system:
- PROFINET IRT for isochronous mode with clock rates up to 250 μs
- High-performance backplane bus of the SIMATIC ET 200MP enables fast response times
- Integrated shielding design enhances station resistance against external EMC interference
Digital input modules with very short input delay of 50 μs

SIMATIC ET 200MP Central Processing Units
SIMATIC S7-1500 and SIMATIC ET 200MP share the same system design. Because of this the SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs are the intelligent Interface Modules of a SIMATIC ET 200MP IO station.
SIMATIC ET 200MP - Interface Modules
Header module of the I/O-station and connection to PLC
The interface module (IM) connects SIMATIC ET 200MP to PROFINET or PROFIBUS and exchanges data between the higher-level controller and the I/O modules.
ET 200MP is especially suitable for use in plants with large and very large configuration limits. The connection to PROFINET and PROFIBUS allows ET 200MP to be installed either centrally in the control cabinet or distributed in plants covering large areas.
As many as 30 modules may be operated behind the PROFINET modules (max. 12 with PROFIBUS).
SIMATIC ET 200MP Interface Modules offer sophisticated functionality even without integrated CPUs:
- Function "Shared device"
The PROFINET function "Shared Device" allows logical distribution of large configuration limits of one station among up to 2 or 4 PROFINET IO controllers. Large configuration limits can be grouped behind an IM in order to the connect the data logically to various IO controllers. This saves the installation of interface modules and hence costs. - Function MSI (Modular Shared Input) and MSO (Modular Shared Output).
The ET 200MP supports all the MSI and MSO (Modular Shared Input; Modular Shared Output) functions.
With MSI, the input data of a digital or analog input module can be logically mirrored on up to four IO controllers (depending on IM type).
With MSO, the data that an IO controller writes to a digital or analog output module can be read back by up to 3 additional IO controllers.
MSI/MSO thus helps to save on wiring. In addition, communication is only configured. No programming of communication devices or other mechanisms is needed. This simplifies the software engineering and considerably improves the servicing and maintenance of the user program. Changes and adjustments can also be easily made at a later date without affecting the user program. - Function "Proximity detection"
Due to the so-called "Proximity detection" on PROFINET (LLDP), the ET 200MP interface modules no longer require memory cards. This simplifies the handling of the IMs during replacement and also saves costs. If an IM fails, it can simply be removed and a new IM inserted. The IP address and the new name are automatically assigned to this new module by the proximity detection. - Function configuration management ("option handling")
The configuration management ("option handling") can be used to configure plants in their maximum configuration and to expand them at a later date without the help of an engineering tool. Added options (plant components) can be easily activated by pressing a button.
For connecting to PROFINET the following Interface Modules are available:
IM 155-5 PN BA
IM 155-5 PN ST
IM 155-5 PN HF
These interface modules are integrated in the TIA Portal. In addition, GSD files available are available with which these interface modules can be integrated into any engineering tool and operated on any controller that supports PROFINET.
The IM 155-5 PN BA further improves the scalability of the ET 200MP distributed I/O system. It especially enables small-scale stations to be built cost-optimized. For example, it can be used to economically replace the "proprietary" line expansions of the S7-300 (IM 360 / IM 361) in the control cabinet, allowing you thereby to profit from the open fieldbus standard, PROFINET, at the same time.
The IM155-5PN HF can also be operated on an S7-400H. So-called "S2 Redundancy" is hereby supported. The system is configured using the GSD file and STEP 7 5.5, SP3.
Scalability, performance and usability
The digital and analog modules provide exactly the inputs/outputs that are required for the respective task. They can be used both centrally, i.e. directly on the CPU, as well as locally in the ET 200MP I/O system. 25 mm and 35 mm modules are available.
The analog modules possess expanded functions like oversampling, measuring range adjustments or scaling of measured values.
Scalability, performance and usability
- Scalability allows customized and cost-effective implementation of the application
- Modules available with different numbers of channels and functionalities
- Increased function density for compact design and reduced number of variants
- U-connector with self-assembling backplane bus
- Space-saving installation of additional components possible on mounting rail
- Maximum system performance for fast processes and very high control quality
- PROFINET IRT for isochronous mode with clock rates up to 250 μs
- Digital input modules with very short input delay of 50 μs
- Analog modules with conversion time of 62,5µs rsp. 125 µs for 8 channels
- Universally usable analog input module with independent characteristic linearization for temperature measurements and threshold monitoring (two high and two low limits); very simple stocking of spare parts, as all measurement types and measuring ranges are combined in one module
Digital Input Modules
The modules have high channel density and low parts variance. As a result, ordering, logistics and spare-parts inventory are considerably simplified.
High Feature modules with enhanced functionality are only available with the 35mm form factor. Modules with a width a width of 35 mm can be equipped with a front connector using screw terminal or push-in technology, the connector has to be ordered separately.
The narrow 25mm modules use a front connector with push-in technology which is included in the scope of delivery. The modules have the same mechanical structure as the 35 mm modules. They also offer the same operability and the same accessories. Moreover, the pin assignment in the wiring is unchanged. This means that circuit and wiring diagrams can be universally used.
The narrow, low-cost modules do not have any parameter assignment or diagnostics, so integration in the engineering is significantly easier.
The narrow 25 mm modules can be mixed with the 35 mm modules as required.

Analog input modules (AI)
Analog input modules record process signals such as pressure or temperature and forward them in digitalized format (16 bit format) to the control. They are suitable for measuring current (2-wire and 4-wire transducers), voltage, and resistance, as well as for the connection of resistance thermometers and thermocouples (measurement types depend on the module).
Modules with a width of 35 mm can be equipped with a front connector using screw terminal or push-in technology, the connector has to be ordered separately.

For all analog input modules the components for shielding like power supply element, shield bracket, and shield terminal are included in the scope of delivery

Expanded functions for analog inputs
- Oversampling (for SM 531 AI 8xU/I HS)
The use of the oversampling function requires an isochronous configuration.
For analog input modules, the preset transmit clock is divided into up to 16 time-equidistant subcycles. The module reads in a measured value in each subcycle and saves it. The read in measured values of a data cycle are copied to the interface module (IM) of the ET 200MP in the next transmit clock and are available to the processing CPU one transmit clock later.
A major advantage of Oversampling is that no faster CPU-Cycle is required for recording the high temporal resolution measurements. - Scaling of the measured values (for SM 531 AI 8xU/I HF)
With scaling of the measured values, the value corresponding to the technological quantity of the process can be assigned to the physical measured values of the module (current or voltage). This saves time and memory during program processing in the CPU, as the analog input module converts the physical value directly and makes it available to the user program as 32-bit floating point value (REAL). - Measuring range adjustment (for SM 531 AI 8xU/R/RTD/DC HF)
The measuring range adjustment to the used sensor enables you to increase the resolution for a configurable section of the measuring range in S7 format. Sensors frequently do not use the entire nominal range of a module but only return voltage values in a partial range. By configuring the sensor limits in the TIA Portal, the original measuring range is expanded. The resolution of the measured values is more detailed. - Calibration at RUN (for SM 531 AI 8xU/I HF and SM 531 AI 8xU/R/RTD/TC HF)
Repeated calibration may be particularly useful for plants in which sensors measure or process relatively small voltages or currents. Recalibration compensates for any effects on the measurement result caused by cables, temperature or sensor and can be executed in RUN of the CPU. Thereby, the latest values are acquired and saved retentively on the module. - Scalable temperature measurement range (for SM 531 AI 8xU/R/RTD/TC HF)
To keep the process temperature at a constant operating point, the module must provide a relatively high resolution. Therefore, the operating point of the process gets defined as "measuring range mean". By limiting the measuring range to a smaller area, the 16-bit resolution of the module can be applied to this range which permits a significantly higher resolution of the measurement and therefore accurate calculations.
Analog input modules with 35 mm width
Analog input module with 25 mm width
Analog output modules SM 532
Analog output modules convert a 16-bit digital value into a current or a voltage and output this to the process. They are suitable, for example, for controlling proportional valves or small servo drives.
For all analog output modules the components for shielding like power supply element, shield bracket, and shield terminal are included in the scope of delivery.
The narrow 25 mm modules can be used side by side with 35 mm modules in one station.
Expanded functions for analog outputs
- Oversampling (for SM 532 AQ 8XU/I HS)
The use of the oversampling function requires an isochronous configuration.
For analog output modules, the preset transmit clock is divided into up to 16 time-equidistant subcycles. A data packet is transferred by the controller to the module and written to the process divided into n equidistant subcycles. The read or output values are transferred in the user data of the analog module. This increases the address space of the module.
A major advantage of Oversampling is that no faster CPU-Cycle is required for recording the high temporal resolution measurements. - Isochronous mode (for SM 532 AQ 4XU/I HF)
With the "Isochronous mode" system property, measured values and process data can be acquired with a fixed system clock. The signal processing until switching on the output terminal occurs in the same system clock. Isochronous mode thus contributes to high quality of the controller and therefore to greater manufacturing precision. Possible fluctuations of the process response times are significantly reduced. Time-assured processing, i.e. the high deterministic response, can be used for a higher machine cycle.
