SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs

The heart of the SIMATIC S7-1500
The central processing units (CPUs) are the heart of the SIMATIC S7-1500. They execute the user program and network the controller with other automation components. Thanks to numerous innovations, the CPUs of the SIMATIC S7-1500 deliver the ultimate plus in productivity and efficiency. The hardware is extremely compact and certified to IP20 or IP65/67 standard. These highly integrated, highly versatile modules save space in and around the cabinet and reduce the spare parts inventory costs.
Overview of SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs
The scope ranges from standard and failsafe CPUs for small to midsize requirements, offering compact size designs with integrated inputs and outputs, supplemented with technological functions, all the way up to most demanding high-performance applications. Wherever an integration of high-level language C/C++ as PLC function or as self-contained application is needed, multifunctional platform CPUs come into play. For applications in the field of midrange motion control, technology CPUs provide support with extended motion control features. Special requirements regarding robustness or environmental conditions are covered with a separate SIPLUS device family.

SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs
SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs are scalable in terms of power, memory and quantity structure, they offer future-proof communication with OPC UA and PROFINET, and basic motion control functions.
In addition, the fail-safe versions have a larger memory for standard and fail-safe applications and fail-safe communication via PROFIsafe with PROFINET/PROFIBUS, and guarantee functional safety to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 62061 and PL e in accordance with ISO 13849.
Extended motion control functionality
Technology CPUs are scalable in performance, memory and quantity structure. They come with an extended scope of motion control functionality (gear and cam disk synchronism, kinematics with up to four interpolating axes), larger memory for standard, motion control and failsafe applications as well as future-proof communication with OPC UA and PROFINET.
Motion control has never been so easy for PLC programmers!
Engineering for the SIMATIC S7-1500T CPU and SINAMICS S210, S110, S120, and V90 drives can be performed using TIA Portal. Parameterization of the technology and motion control functions is performed via technology objects (TO). TOs give PLC programmers an easy view of more complex functions, enable configuration via input screens, save time, and reduce the rate of error thanks to the use of simulation tools. Automatic comparison of technology values between controller and drive results in reduced time exposure for engineering, commissioning and services. User-friendly axis diagnostics and powerful trace functions ensure maximum transparency. Cam disks can be optimized in accordance with VDI guidelines.
Utilization under extreme conditions
SIPLUS CPUs are suited for extremely harsh, industrial settings with tougher demands in terms of expanded temperature range and an atmosphere containing harmful gases. They can be operated in an ambient temperature of -40°C to +70°C, can withstand condensation, elevated atmospheric humidity, and dust and water. They will also function under extreme environmental loads (e.g. harmful gas environments), elevated mechanical loads, and in various non-standard voltage ranges. Special industrial solutions make additional applications possible.
For high-performance applications
Multifunctional platform CPUs enable the use of programs created with the high-level language C/C++, to allow the continued use of existing technological expertise. They can be used via an API as an application independent of the PLC cycle, and/or as a PLC function block call within the cycle. The required SIMATIC ODK 1500S engineering kit contains the familiar Eclipse editor. The model-based code generation for Matlab Simulink uses SIMATIC Target S7-1500S. The plug-and-Play function of the SIMATIC memory card ensures the long-term spare part compatibility for which it is known.
Maximum availability
Redundant CPUs are synchronized via PROFINET and are suitable for applications in which controller availability is very important. High-availability CPUs support applications in which “bumpless” availability is more important. Synchronization is via dedicated synchronization modules and cables. The primary CPU is programmed just like a standard CPU – the backup CPU is automatically fed with the same program with support from the system, and synchronously monitors the primary CPU in operation.
