Rail Infrastructure

Siemens is the leading supplier of complete rail automation products and solutions for all kinds of railway systems.

Performance-enhancing technology

Siemens automation technology makes your infrastructure intelligent – increasing the value of your business, enhancing passenger experience, and maximizing the availability of your assets.

Automation for Mainline and for Metro Projects

Siemens modern signaling systems are designed for safety, speed and economy. A high standard of technical reliability and operational safety are ensured by incorporating proven design and latest components technology.

Siemens Signaling and Control Equipment offers many advantages – such as a Remote Control System, in which all the operations, dispositions and statistical data are centrally processed and automated. It can handle the traffic with speed and safety. It is available for any range and size of operational requirements.

This can be performed by an operator by pressing two buttons, or with a computerized programming schedule which enables the setting of safe train routes and automatically eliminates all conflicting moves. At the same time, the operating conditions are continuously indicated on the control panel.

Relays

Siemens K50 Relay is failsafe, non-fault-prone and a positive function. It is a vital component used in railway signaling circuits. Its series contact layout serves optimally in case of contact rupturing or breaking reliability. In addition to this, contact performs a wiping and a self-cleaning action, providing sufficiently long friction action and consequently positive contact making.

BPAC

BPAC provides all safety requirements of absolute block working between two stations: Track vacancy detection and failsafe block information transmission by Axle Counter system of SIEMENS Az S 350 U, safe communication protocol by using the hamming distance of 9 and all safety circuits wired using K50 Relays having extra features such as rigid contact carriers with double break contact arrangements.

Audio Frequency Track Vacancy Detection

Audio Frequency Track Circuit is designed as a track vacancy detection system for main line as well as metro, urban, and suburban railways. The isolation between two tracks is achieved by means of electrical separation joints.

Siemens FTGS is a state-of-the-art track circuit equipped with extensive operating state indicators that allow additional information to be transmitted via rails to the train by means of external control circuit. Its remote fed and led indications gives number of advantages, i.e. high reliability, high availability and easy maintenance.

Axle Counter

Track vacancy detection systems provide reliable information on the clear and occupied states of track sections, thereby making the railway operations smooth.

The AZ S 350 U system of Axle Counters offers high economic efficiency by low initial cost, high reliability and high availability by fault- tolerant evaluation of the pulse count through multiple axle counting method, space saving compact design, easy reconfiguring using DIP switches, and interfacing with all interlocking types via parallel relay interface.

Auxiliary Warning System

The Auxiliary Warning System is the economic solution for safer and more flexible operations; a solution for running more trains in any time interval. The information is transmitted from the line to the train by this equipment. It continuously monitors the maximum authorized speed and the braking procedures. Driver gets operating information for the section ahead and also receives optical and acoustical warnings in advance.

The system introduces service braking to control the speed with reference to the signal aspect and helps applying emergency braking in a dangerous situation.

Point Machines

Point Machine is an electrically motor operated device, which throws a point of railway track in one direction or the other. The Siemens S 700 K Point Machine is used to throw points of all types and gauges. It can be used for all points with external locking. Even derailers and locks, e.g. on lift and swing bridges or lock gates can be operated with this point machine.

Thermo Flasher

Mercury Flasher is used for generating a flashing source from a steady input for flashing indications on the relay interlocking control panel or cabin.

Rail Systems

The Division “Rail Systems” will comprise the entire Siemens rail vehicle business – railways, metros and locomotives and even trams and light rail and related services. The employees of “Rail Systems” will be responsible for our railway customers worldwide and will jointly develop customized mobility solutions in close cooperation with them on site.

Customer Service & Transportation Solutions

The Business Unit “Customer Service and Transportation Solutions” (CS&TS) is operating worldwide and offers a unique solution portfolio for service and turnkey systems during the complete life cycle of a customer’s railway system. We will act as a business unit across the divisional lines and business units limits and provide service for “Rail Automation“ (RA), for example, as well.

High Speed and Commuter Rail

The new Business Unit “High Speed and Commuter Rail” (HC) is going to be an international supplier of rolling stock for commuter and mainline services. The portfolio of “High Speed and Commuter Rail” includes attractive and comfortable commuter, regional, intercity and high-speed trains.

Locomotives and Components (LOC)

The new Locomotives and Components (LOC) Business Unit offers innovative product and system solutions for passenger rail and rail freight traffic. It is the leading supplier of both multisystem and high-speed locomotives. Locomotives powered by Siemens equipment haul huge loads all over the world. With its current Vectron line, LOC is continuing the successful history in the field of locomotive manufacture, which began when Siemens invented the very first electric locomotive back in 1879.

Siemens locomotives combine sustained cost-effective operation with low environmental impact and resource consumption. In addition to its renowned locomotive platforms, LOC provides customized solutions based on service-proven designs and components. As a competent partner for components such as traction systems, bogies and on-board power supplies, LOC can supply not only the complete range of electrical and mechanical equipment but also entire system solutions for modern rail vehicles – and all from a single source. Backed by a high degree of expertise and reliability, Siemens ensures the mobility and the competitiveness of its customers.

Metro, Coaches and Light Rail (MCL)

The new Business Unit “Metro, Coaches and Light Rail” (MCL) will combine all activities concerning rail vehicles for mass transit systems in cities with the passenger coaches business.

Customers from all over the world will find a competent and experienced partner in MCL. It will be a partner who can offer efficient, safe and environmentally-friendly rolling stock to meet the ever increasing demand for mobility in the form of metro vehicles, light rail vehicles, trams and driverless systems for cities, as well as passenger coaches for inter-city rail service.
