Sustainable infrastructure for the New Iraq
As a global partner with more than 80 years of local presence in the country, we continually contribute to Iraq’s transformation.Together, Iraq and Siemens built electrical infrastructure in the 1930s, bridges over the Tigris River in the 1950s, and power plants in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, Siemens technology distributes 50 percent of the electricity consumed in the country.
We at Siemens are proud of what we've been able to accomplish in Iraq for Iraq.
A Roadmap for the electrification of the New Iraq
OUR VISION:
The transformation of Iraq has the potential to be one of the greatest achievements in the modern Arab world. 40 million Iraqis living in vibrant cities, powered by reliable and efficient energy; a robust industrial sector and sustainable economic development, driven by world-class, home-grown talent.
Current engagements in Iraq
-
Installation of 13 of 132 kilovolt substations and supply of 35 power transformer
-
Construction of a 500 megawatt gas-fired power plant
-
Upgrade of 40 gas turbines with upstream cooling systems
-
Al-Tawheed Clinic rehabilitation
Reconstruction of Baiji facilities to power homes in liberated areas
Siemens and Orascom Construction signed an agreement with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity to rebuild Baiji 1 and Baiji 2 power plants in northern Iraq. The plants will have a combined generation capacity of 1.6 gigawatts when completed and are a major step in Siemens roadmap for rebuilding Iraq's power sector that has already added more than 700 megawatts to Iraq’s grid.
