Practicing sustainability – in the interest of future generations
Our sustainability initiatives are an essential aspect of successfully implementing the Siemens Strategy Program Vision 2020. Our understanding of sustainability is fully based on our company values – responsible, excellent, innovative. At Siemens, we define sustainable development as the means to achieve profitable and long-term growth. In doing so, we, externally, align ourselves with the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while, internally, striving to balance people, environment and profit.Business to Society
We want to generate lasting value for the societies, we are operating in. We generate this value through our Siemens portfolio, our local operations, our ingenuity and through our numerous initiatives a company committed to its social responsibility toward the community. As part of the Sustainability Program, Siemens has developed methodologies to assess and measure its impact on societies. We identify the goals important to the sustainable development of countries we operate in and seek to understand which goals the country has set itself. The findings of this analysis help us to address the topics that really matter to our stakeholder groups.

Siemens leads the way. We are already taking significant steps towards achieving our goal to be a carbon neutral company by 2030. One year after launching the Siemens’ Carbon Neutral Operations program, we have successfully reduced our 2014 carbon footprint by more than 20%. We focus on four levers – our energy-efficiency program, decentralized energy systems, optimization of our vehicle fleet and electricity from renewable sources.
