British system integrator opts for flexible and individually adaptable solution
ID key-operated switches from Siemens make passwords superfluous
C T Systems (UK) Ltd is a specialist in system integration, for example in the field of machine tool manufacturing, process lines and support service. The company faced increasing problems because customers were always forgetting their passwords for access to particular parameters within the HMI and calling the company at all hours of day and night to seek help.
On the lookout for an access authorization method without passwords, the automation experts came across the SIRIUS ACT ID key-operated switches.
High level of security and usability: Authorization management with SIRIUS ACT ID key-operated switches
Access with an individual ID key
SIRIUS ACT ID key-operated switches can be configured so that authorization for machine access can be set individually. The associated keys contain an RFID chip that makes them uniquely identifiable. Key and switch are linked by a stable radio connection and have no HMI contact.
If the ID key is lost, the systems remain secure because the key can easily be disabled and replaced. In addition, the use of each key is logged so that it is clear who has used the machine and when. This offers additional security and the possibility of evaluating information on operation, downtimes or maintenance work, which can be recorded with the aid of a database.
Compared to standard passwords, this is a much improved solution that we would like to use for future projects with HMI login.Chris Haigh, Managing Director C T Systems (UK) Ltd
