SINUMERIK 840D sl offers an almost inexhaustible performance potential: Thanks to its drive-based, high-performance NCUs (Numerical Control Units) with state-of-the-art multicore processor technology, up to 93 axes in 30 machine channels can be controlled in the NCU link.
In addition to the scalable NCU performance, SINUMERIK 840D sl also has a high degree of modularity when it comes to the operating components. A flexible M:N operating concept – for example, any operator panel can be combined with the NCU – makes the SINUMERIK 840D sl the ideal solution when operating high-end machine tools.
Communication at every level

SINUMERIK blackline plus operator panels utilize the 16:9 format, have an attractive modern design and provide the basis for completely new operating concepts. They are available in sizes ranging from 15 to 24 inches. In the basic MCP 398C version, the add-on machine control panels are identical for all screen formats – and can be expanded using additional modules.

From software release 4.8 SP 2, Safety Integrated plus is also available for SINUMERIK 840D sl. A real highlight is the graphically supported commissioning with screen forms that significantly simplify parameterizing the safety functions.
The SinuTrain offline programming station brings SINUMERIK Operate to the PC, including an animated machine control panel, to create a training situation that is very similar to that experienced in reality. This facilitates an easy transition from a training into a practical environment. This powerful tool allows NC programs to be programmed offline at a PC in an environment that is close to reality; these NC programs can then be directly transferred to the CNC. CNCs can be programmed in a training environment exactly as they will be subsequently used in real machines controlled by SINUMERIK. Perfectly tailored training packages are available as well as a free-of-charge basic version – everything you need for efficient training in your own environment.
SINAMICS S120 is synonymous with performance and flexibility when it comes to equipping machine tools. In addition to a wide range of motor modules up to a power rating of 300 kW, there is also an infeed unit with a controlled DC link. This ensures the shortest spindle acceleration times, and facilitates perfect reactive power compensation for the complete machine.
SINAMICS S120 Combi combines the performance of the modular SINAMICS S120 in a compact, rugged design. One infeed and up to four Cabinet Modules are integrated in one housing. This drive is the ideal basis for equipping compact standard machine concepts with a spindle power of 15 kW and up to five feed axes.
High stall torques, high maximum speeds and smooth running characteristics make SIMOTICS servomotors the optimum feed drive for machine tools. The high degree of protection, strong bearings and rugged design mean that these synchronous servomotors have outstanding reliability.
Going beyond conventional rotary motor principles, the SIMOTICS range also encompasses linear and torque motors with a high dynamic performance. Elasticity, backlash and friction in the machine drive train – along with mechanical transmission elements – can be almost completely eliminated when using SIMOTICS L-1FN3 linear motors. Further, using SIMOTICS T-1FW6 torque motors, completely new technological domains can be addressed, for example, turning on milling machines.
An outstanding portfolio is obtained by teaming-up the high level of competence in spindle design and construction of Weiss Spindeltechnologie GmbH with Siemens' long tradition of building electric motors. This unique portfolio supports all types of spindle solutions – from classic mechanical spindles based on SIMOTICS M-1PH8 mounted spindle motors, through SIMOTICS M-1FE1 and M-1FE2 – up to hybrid and high-performance motor spindles.
