Customer Services for Transformers

Extend the life of your assets
Your challenge: over 70 % of the UK transformer population has been in operation for 25 years or more. Their average life is exceeding the intended design-life increasingly frequently, with spare capacity often completely used up. Load requirements, environmental and sustainability objectives can also conflict with budget constraints; and replacement lead-times can be long. Our solution: whether you are using modern transformers - designed to closer tolerances than in the past - or older equipment that has been in service for decades, regular maintenance and testing is ever more essential. We offer a suite of services to meet this demand, from reactive repair to preventive maintenance, remote monitoring and diagnostics of a single unit to an entire fleet. Benefit: as well as preventing unplanned downtimes and ensuring that transformers operate reliably and without interruption, we will help you extend your asset lifecycle and maintain transformers at maximum operational level. Although we manufacture our own world-leading transformers – and are the inheritors of the Peebles brand too (see below), we will support any installed transformers, irrespective of the manufacturer.
Taking pride in our Peebles heritage
Did you know that the Transformers Service (CSTRUK) business of Siemens’ Energy Management division is the ONLY genuine inheritor of the proud Peebles brand?
Following VA Tech’s acquisition of Reyrolle and Peebles from Rolls-Royce in 1998, Siemens acquired VA Tech in 2005. Now, from our base in Hebburn UK, supported by global manufacturing colleagues we are able to service and support any installed Peebles Transformer worldwide.
An extended lifespan
Nowadays, over 70% of the transformer population has been in operation for more than 25 years. The average life of transformers in operation is exceeding their intended design life in an increasing number of cases. In infrastructure systems, industry or households, transformers always play a key role in the reliable transmission and distribution of power.
The construction, rated power, voltage level and scope of the application are all key factors that determine the transformer’s design. Today, however, load requirements, environmental constraints and sustainability objectives are often in conflict with budget restrictions and long replacement leadtimes.
A significant installed base of ageing transformers …
For example, in the 1960’s and 70’s, the power industry saw a major expansion that required a significant investment in high-voltage transformers.
This investment resulted in a signicant transformer estate that, some 50 or so years later, is at increasing risk of failure. This is why extending the assets lifecycle, ensuring the safety of your transformers and maintaining them at maximum operational level is our prime objective.
Siemens does not just maintain the extensive installed base of Peebles transformers (having acquired the prestigious and historic Peebles brand in 2005), but our engineers are qualified and experienced to maintain many other manufacturers’ equipment.
For all these brands, both historic and current, our customers can benefit from:
Design and engineering documents available
Synergies in transformer service processes
Knowledge sharing between the former manufacturers
Field service experts for each transformer brand still available
… or the latest technology from Siemens
Naturally, we are also your first port of call for maintenance of the modern range of Siemens transformers. Siemens offers transformers for all networks and voltages, every type of cooling and every mode of operation. Our products are designed with environmental sustainability and efficiency in mind and comply with the latest standards and guidelines such as synthetic ester with high flash point.
