The dynamics of our energy landscape are rapidly changing
Pushed by the demands of the UK’s decarbonisation policy, a new business model – Energy as a Service (EaaS) – is shaking-up the way industry looks at its energy supply and use. Advances in decentralised energy systems, digitalisation, and decarbonisation have created the opportunity for the UK’s manufacturing industry – traditionally heavy users of heat and power – to create ‘energy intelligent’ systems for onsite generation which enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and guarantee security of supply. By using EaaS financing models and solutions, manufacturing companies are optimising their energy supply and demand without the need to invest their own capital.Industrial Energy Transformation Fund
The government's Industrial Energy Transformation Fund helps businesses with high energy use cut their carbon emissions and costs through supporting the development and deployment of low carbon, sustainable technologies. As an experienced and trusted partner, Siemens can support businesses with their application for the Fund. The Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) is split into 2 phases of application windows:
- Phase 1 opened on 8th March 2021 and runs until 14th July 2021. This phase supports the deployment of energy efficiency projects and energy efficiency and decarbonisation studies. We can support companies looking for funding for energy efficiency deployment projects from £100,000 to £14 million.
- Phase 2 (launching later in 2021) will expand the scope of the Fund to include deployment of decarbonisation technologies.
Our experts are well-placed to support businesses through the process and are happy to discuss the Fund further.

Siemens’ powerful modelling software delivers bespoke EaaS system
Siemens is uniquely placed to develop the optimal EaaS system through our powerful, advanced software modelling tool. This state-of-the-art technology allows our energy consultants to build a digital twin – an exact replica – of the customer’s manufacturing facility by drawing data every 30 minutes from the site such as, the demand for electricity, steam, and hot water. Local data such as weather is also harvested to build the twin and accurately measure the site’s performance. This incredibly powerful simulation tool allows us to tailor a solution specific to an individual customer, their energy objectives and their site.
A Siemens’ bespoke system for energy generation and management will significantly reduce costs – and provide data for accurate budgeting - and improve performance to help meet a customer’s decarbonisation goals.
Expert partner for your ideal energy model
Siemens has been recognised as an innovator and global leader of the power generation market for many decades. We are proud to say we have the widest portfolio in the market; an unrivalled range of products and services which enables us to be the trusted partner of valued customers globally.
As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), Siemens makes – and has expert knowledge of - the electrical components used across all types of generation, from gas engine and turbines, wind, battery storage, heat pumps and solar-PV panels.
Being a respected OEM and having the greatest level of accessibility and control over parts enables us to provide unequalled flexibility in our offer. It allows us to make changes to engine characteristics to suit a specific need and optimise operation for a customer. It also means the relationship is purely between Siemens and our customer: simple, cost effective, responsive.
As a global engineering company with expertise across the entire spectrum of energy management, we are best placed to advise our manufacturing customers outside of their power generation requirements and leverage our knowledge of energy efficiency systems, factory automation, control, building management systems, fire and security, and electric vehicle charge points.
We call this ‘Energy Intelligence’ – we provide customers with the intelligence to optimise energy generation.
From product supply to full EaaS option
As a full-service provider, Siemens has a scale of products and solutions to meet our customer’s needs. Our packages range from simply providing the products, to a turnkey solution, to a flexible service contract, flat-rate service contract and on to an energy service contract. We are fortunate to be able to offer our customers financial flexibility through Siemens Financial Services (SFS). We have our own team of investment experts and bankers who are completely aligned to support our projects and find the best financial solutions for our customers.
SFS offers leading financial services which include preferential lending rates, flexible usage and outcome-based financing as well as management of financed assets to customers of all sizes.
Whereas a commercial bank might see risk in lending for a large energy project, our in-house team sees and fully understands our business, our projects, our products and technology and the way we work. Finance from SFS also means our customers are not working with a third party and benefit from lower cost of capital.
One team. One point of contact. One unique solution.
