Describe a day in the life of a Siemens Business Development Manager
In my role as BDM, I cover the North of England & Scotland for the Commercial Broker channel. I’m responsible for driving growth with my existing accounts, onboarding new brokers and identifying emerging markets to continue to diversify the SFS portfolio. My area is quite large and I spend a lot of time in the car, so I’m always available on the end of the phone!
What do you love most about your job?
Closing a deal. In Sales there is no better feeling than a deal reaching completion, knowing you’ve helped a customer to achieve their wider objectives.
What excites you about the future of the SFS Broker channel?
The growth opportunity over the next 5 years, particularly in relation to Renewable energy and Sustainability. In my opinion, the asset finance industry is behind the curve when it comes to the funding of this type of equipment. An area of focus for me is how we can support this area better over the next few years by becoming one of the ‘go to’ funders for sustainability related solutions.
Why Siemens?
We pride ourselves on being a reliable partner. Over the last 2 years we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that our offering has remained consistent in order to support our Partners in times of uncertainty. We’ve also enhanced our digital tools which allows our Brokers to stay in control from proposal through to pay out.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
James – Sit Down. An absolute classic and everybody knows the words!
What has impressed you the most about the broker market?
The resilience & creativity of the people in the industry. Every sector has struggled over the last 2 years, but Brokers always find a way to support their customers, even when the traditional routes are no longer viable options.
What’s your signature dish?
It has to be a Sunday Roast. The favourite meal of the week in our house and I’m confident I make the best roast potatoes in the family, though I’m not sure my Mum would agree!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
In 10 years from now I see myself as a Sales Director. Driving change and leading a large Sales team is my ultimate goal. There’ll be a period of time over the next few years where I will step away from Sales to develop other skills, but Sales is ultimately where I expect my long term career to be.
What is your biggest motivator?
My Family. I’m recently married and have a 5 year old daughter. Providing for them, and making them proud are the most important things to me.
Tell us something about yourself that your customers don’t know
I’m technically a Lord. My estate comprises of a 2 square feet of land somewhere in the Lake District, but it still counts 😊.
