Siemens and Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts expand smart building technology partnership

Today, Siemens and Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts are announcing an expanded technology partnership that will focus on smart building technologies to harness data, increase efficiency, and optimize building performance – all to deliver a comfortable, safe, and secure environment for guests, performers, and crew.
“Many components of Dr. Phillips Center are already powered by Siemens technology,” said arts center president and CEO Kathy Ramsberger. “Our expanded partnership gives us even more data at our fingertips and deepens our ability to deliver an outstanding guest experience.”
Dr. Phillips Center is one of the most technologically advanced and guest-friendly entertainment venues in the United States. In 2018, the arts center received the prestigious Venue Excellence Award from the International Association of Venue Managers for its innovative approach and technology leadership.

Siemens building automation, security systems, and fire safety technologies have been an essential part of the arts center since it opened in November 2014. Already, Siemens automation technology that supports the building’s mechanical systems has helped identify and realize significant energy savings.
The extended partnership, announced at Siemens flagship U.S. technology and innovation conference hosted at Dr. Phillips Center, will bring new Siemens Smart Infrastructure hardware and software into the entertainment venue including:
- Expanded Siemens Desigo CC™ building automation platform – This technology is designed to create comfortable, safe, and efficient facilities that allow for the integration of existing and additional building systems such as lighting controls. More data can be aggregated onto a common platform for better intelligence.
- Remote monitoring and diagnostics – Siemens software will automatically monitor and identify issues and communicate with venue engineering staff to resolve mechanical issues. Data collected from sensors is transferred to the cloud, where the Siemens Digital Service Center team in Austin, Texas, receives the data and, if necessary, advises on a solution.
- Siemens Navigator software – This platform will be installed to advance the autonomous building concept, providing fault detection on building equipment and systems via data analytics.
- Predictive maintenance – Siemens will deploy an electrical infrared scan of all main switchgear and transfer switches as part of a predictive maintenance strategy to ensure the safety of electrical equipment.
- Building Health Review – Siemens will utilize its software, fault detection equipment, and expertise to conduct regular reviews and proactively assess the building’s health and recommend additional services and solutions as needed.
In addition to hardware and software, Siemens will leverage its building technology expertise and provide regular support and advice to venue engineering staff for continued optimization and maintenance of the building.
This expanded partnership is one of many Siemens projects in the region, spanning digital twin work with semiconductor manufacturer BRIDG, bolstering its innovation pipeline with long-standing academic partner the University of Central Florida, and providing digital planning tools to the City of Orlando to help achieve its sustainability goals. Orlando is also a major employment hub for Siemens in the U.S. and is a key region in which the company continues to build its digital strategy. Siemens has more than 4,000 employees across 14 facilities in Central Florida, including one of its Siemens MindSphere Application Centers (sites that develop apps for Siemens’ cloud-based IoT platform), the Siemens Gamesa Wind Service Training Center, and its Energy Hub.
