Siemens recognized as one of the Most Innovative Companies

By: Barbara Humpton, CEO, Siemens USA

The first eHighway on a German autobahn. That was the new innovation that helped put Siemens on Fast Company’s 2020 list of Most Innovative Companies. We came in first on the Top 10 ranking of companies headquartered in Europe, where we were founded and from where we’ve expanded to nearly every country. That includes the United States, our largest market and where we have a workforce of more than 50,000.

Using overhead power lines to charge hybrid trucks, the eHighway offers a clean energy option for freight transport. It’s a technology that we’ve tested here in the United States and a reflection of how we’re working to advance a sustainable future. Last year, we helped our customers around the world decrease their carbon dioxide emissions by 637 million metric tons.

It also exemplifies something even bigger – our mission as a company to create value for society. Powered by the incredible advances driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution, innovations like the eHighway are aimed squarely at improving our quality of life, our communities and our world.

It’s why we’re also thrilled to see Zipline featured on Fast Company’s Top 50 list this year. The company uses Siemens software to deliver critical medical supplies via drone to remote areas. What began as a life-saving service in Rwanda has the potential to revolutionize global health. As Fast Company notes, it will soon serve the Philippines and North Carolina.

These and other innovations are demonstrating how Siemens has evolved as a company over the past 172 years. We’ve paired our rich manufacturing background with a robust digital portfolio to become the largest industrial software company in the world. And not only do we have the cutting-edge capabilities to address current needs, but we have the long-term vision to prepare for future ones.

Using innovation, we can truly expand what’s humanly possible and change people’s lives. We can rewrite today’s challenges into solutions for a future we’ll confront decades from now.

I often talk about the true purpose of working with technology. It was a lesson I learned early in my career. Using innovation, we can truly expand what’s humanly possible and change people’s lives. We can rewrite today’s challenges into solutions for a future we’ll confront decades from now. That’s the message we hope this recognition from Fast Company sends. As one of the Most Innovative Companies, we’re deploying our technology to make an impact – and a difference.
