Short-Circuit Current Ratings

Since April 2006, it has been a requirement of the National Electric Code (NFPA70) Article 409 that the short-circuit at the incoming supply terminal of the industrial control panel be calculated and this calculation be documented with the respective date of calculation. Often times, the application for industrial control panel calls for a short-circuit current rating (SCCR) to be 65kA or higher. One option to achieve a higher SCCR rating is through the use of tested combinations. Siemens performs extensive SCCR testing to ensure you can meet any application requirement.

Siemens Current Limiting Circuit Breakers offer additional advantages when trying to maximize the SCCR for your control panel. However Circuit Breakers are only considered as current limiting if they are:

  • Applied in the ‘feeder circuit’
  • Marked as “current limiting”

Please review the SCCR white paper for more details on how to apply and use them. The file below provides the Peak let-through p) Curves for the following Current Limiting Circuit Breakers: CED6, CFD6, CJD6, CLD6, CMD6, CND6, CPD6, SCJD6, SCLD6, SCMD6, SCND6.
