Certificate in Automation Fundamentals and Newly added Certificate in Advanced Automation Fundamentals

SCE USA is proud to announce the Automation Fundamentals Certificate as a way to provide a structured, repeatable method to validate knowledge of Siemens SIMATIC best practices. Participants can complete the Automation Fundamentals exam to earn Basics, Programmer, and Troubleshooter Badges.  The new Advanced Automation exam also yields a certificate of completion and the five additional digital badges below!   All prep materials are available from the SCE downloads/curriculum site. A passing score of 70% yields a certificate of completion and knowledge badges from SCE.

TIA Portal Basics 

  • Description: The TIA Portal Basics Badge is awarded to students who demonstrate an understanding of Siemens TIA Portal Software and S7-1200 PLC foundation topics.  Creating projects, adding hardware, and programing language basic questions make up this test. 
  • Criteria: Pass the SCE Portal Basics Online Exam with a score of 70 or above. The exam is part 1 of the 3 -part exam, SCE Automation Fundamentals Certification Test for Students: PLC

TIA Portal Programmer

  • Description: The TIA Portal Programmer Badge includes questions related to the creation of a PLC program that meets the operation criteria of an industrial customers. By following SIMATIC recommended best practices, the student should demonstrate knowledge of PLC memory, TIA Portal features and tools, utilizing function modules and blocks.

TIA Portal Troubleshooter

  • Description: TIA Portal Troubleshooter acknowledges a student's proficiency in PLC error diagnostics and communication protocols.  Topics include types of errors, block monitoring and understanding the diagnostics buffer. Connection from a computer to the CPU and online access topics are also covered.

Earners of this badge must demonstrate an understanding of programming features in the hardware, software, and memory storage methods.  Commissioning tasks including CPU cycling, networking, function block and data blocks.

 

- Understand Block types and differences in programming

- Describe attributes of memory storage areas

- Understand STOP and RUN modes and cycles in PLC programming

- Recognize network communication methods and terminology

·        Badge 5: SCE TIA Analog Pro

Earners of this badge must be able to make basic conversions from analog to linear scale and answer questions related to memory storage of analog values.  The tasks include how to interpret analog signal values and configure analog input channels.

 

- Describe the difference between analog and digital

- Understand why A/D Conversion is required.

- Provide examples of analog signals/values.

- Recognize control engineering conventions for A/D conversion

Earners of this badge must understand types of blocks and the differences between them.  Users should understand data types, default units of measurements, and storage format for data types.  User should show proficiency in basic SCL parameters and parameter assignments.

Earners of this badge must demonstrate proficiency in basic network communications between PLCs, HMIs, and distributed IO. Users should understand IP addresses and HMI tagging. Badge earners should understand advanced programming concepts in TIA Portal including PID Controllers and technology objects.  Diagnostics including status indicators, overrides, call structures and assignment lists are covered.

Earners of this badge must understand the concept of digital twin, virtual commissioning and what the advantages are.  Students should recognize the definition of basic IOT term including hardware and software-in-the-loop.

- Understand the advantages offered by using virtual controllers in testing
