The right education for Industrial Networks

Siemens recognizes the importance of having the network meet the needs of the application it's supporting. For that reason we offer two certification tracks. Our industrial network track, based on our SCALANCE portfolio, teaches students how to design and maintain network requirements associated with industrial applications such as manufacturing, logistics and others. Our mission critical networks track, based on our RUGGEDCOM portfolio, teaches students how to design and maintain network requirements associated with mission critical applications commonly found in Electric Power, Rail, Transportation and Defense applications.

Whether you are an Application Engineer in an automotive plant or a Communication Engineer at an Electric Utility, we have a course that's right for you.  All courses are instructor-led, hands-on, and allow you to acquire the in-depth industry knowledge needed to compete in today's global market.

We also offer a couple of introductory, non-certification courses that are great starting points before you begin to invest in your professional certification portfolio - our 2-day Fundamentals course and a web-based Ethernet intro course.

Any of our courses can be offered as an Onsite class, meaning we bring the class to you. This an ideal solution for teams requiring training, as there are added conveniences and cost benefits.

Open our Onsite Networking Certification Training Flyer to learn more.

In light of COVID-19, we are now offering our Virtual Instructor-Led classes, as a way to ensure our customers still have the same opportunities for learning and professional growth as before. No longer is there a need to travel.  These classes follow the same curriculum and still offer Hands-On training using our equipment.  We accomplish this by setting up remote access to our demo units for each participant, using our own SINEMA RC platform.  We have also incorporated video streaming into the lab, so students can physically see what is happening with their individual demo kits. For this reason our class sizes have been reduced to 6 people, to ensure each student get their own equipment set.  Check out the Schedule tab to see the complete list of Virtual classes available

Preparing for the Certification Courses

Siemens has developed 2 types of fundamental training options.  One is the free web-based training called Initial Training for Industrial Networks (ITIN).  The other option is a 2-day in person Industrial Ethernet Fundamentals course which is completely presentation style. A test is given at the end of this course, allowing you to gauge your readiness for the certification courses.

As a reminder, these are non-certification courses.

Siemens Initial Training for Industrial Networks

This learning module covers the basics of Ethernet-based networks without industrial specifications. Universal techniques based on industry examples are used to facilitate understanding. The web-based training (WBT) provides an introduction to industrial networks technology. The Industrial Ethernet Fundamentals classroom training takes you through the seven layers of the OSI reference model with a focus on the network layers 1-3 – the basic knowledge you need to take part in our certification courses.

Fundamentals of Industrial Networking (In-person, Instructor-led)

Overview

This course is for anyone interested in learning about the fundamentals of networking, either as an introduction or as a refresher, regardless of the industry, as the content is about the technology.  Participants range from Sales Engineers wanting to get a better understanding of the topic to Plant Engineers or Substation Engineers wanting to freshen up before taking one of our certification courses.

Retaking the Exam

For every confirmed class that we hold, we offer the ability to schedule an Exam Retake on the last day of that training, regardless of certification course.  For example, Wireless LAN exams retakes can be administered at the same time as Switching & Routing exams.  Therefore, when you login to SITRAIN, you will see a course option titled “Re-certification (Exam Retake)”, which will show all the current locations for retaking the exam.  If you would like to communicate with someone regarding scheduling an exam retake near you, please email our coordinator.

For more details on Re-certification, view our Course Description.

COVID 19 Update: In light of only offering Virtual Classes at this time, we are unable to provide on-site testing for recertification.  However, if you have an urgent need, please reach out to our coordinator, and we will work with you on a solution.
