Up to 40,000 rpm – highest performance asynchronous induction and main spindle motor solutions
SIMOTICS M Main Motors
Widely used, asynchronous induction motors are a preferred choice for a spectrum of industrial applications due to their rugged construction, absence of brushes, and the ability to control the motor speed. Compact, with high-power density, Siemens high-performance induction motors are almost maintenance-free and feature an optional integrated, high-resolution measuring system for high-end speed and position control.
SIMOTICS main motors have been designed to address
the increasing demands associated with state-of-the-art machine building and plant construction.
Available in rugged induction, synchronous and reluctance versions, they set themselves apart due to short rise times — and can handle extreme load cycles with high speed, torque and positioning precision.
Packing all the strength, efficiency, flexibility and durability you need into one box
Based on a universal design succeeding the predecessor high-performance induction motor families — 1PH7, 1PH4, 1PL6, 1PM4 and 1PM6 — in one platform, the 1PH8 family replaces these products with full compatibility and even wider power and speed range.
Overview of the SIMOTICS M-1PH8 product range
The sophisticated modular design offers various degrees of protection and cooling methods – as well as several options to electrically and mechanically integrate the main motor.
Powerful features & flexible configuration options
An asynchronous induction motor designed for use with a drive is significantly more compact and sturdy with a higher standard of concentricity than a conventional three-phase induction motor. It has incremental encoders for speed-controlled operation and is available with absolute value transmitters for positioning applications. Transmitter-free operation is also possible in more basic applications.
Compared to standard and trans norm NEMA and IEC motors, the 1PH8 motors are optimized for high-end motion control tasks utilizing variable speed drives. To achieve outstanding performance in these applications, the 1PH8 is about 30 to 40 percent smaller, resulting in lower rotor inertia and better dynamic response times.
The rated speed range of up to 6,000 rpm is enhanced with field weakening (constant power) all the way up to 20,000 rpm. The very rugged 1PH8 motors are available in IP rating 55 and 65 with a high overload capability (up to 3 times rated torque) and rotatable connectors (in the lower shaft heights) or terminal boxes.
The specially harmonized power components, electronic rating plates, and the ability to integrate the motors via the DRIVE‑CLiQ system interface ensure quick and easy commissioning as well as problem‑free operation. What’s more, thanks to the harmonization of the system, these motors are capable of handling extreme duty cycles, short rise times, and are exceptionally precise in terms of speed, torque, and positioning.
To expand and round out the line of SIMOTICS M-1PH8 main motors, the 1PH8 reluctance motors complete the performance range in shaft heights 132 and 160. With synchronous reluctance technology, external ventilation and water cooling, they are based on the standard 1PH8 platform and differ from the asynchronous or synchronous motors only in terms of a newly-developed rotor technology. As a result, the reluctance motors have the same appearance, mechanical interfaces and dimensions. The structure of the order number and the options available have been adopted from the 1PH8 standard platform. Due to this consistency, the new 1PH8 reluctance motors can easily be used for new and familiar applications.
Areas of application
The 1PH8 reluctance motors are designed for variable frequency drive operation and are characterized by a high power density and high efficiency, and especially intended for applications where there is a high energy throughput and a focus on reduced LCC (Life Cycle Cost).
The 1PH8 reluctance motors are available in Performance and Efficiency versions each focusing on what their names suggest. In this context, the manufacturer's specification (not mandatory from the standard) is the IE class according to IEC 60034-30-2.
