Urgently needed powerThe availability of electrical power is a major enabler of social and economic development. Some parts of the world are developing so fast that conventional power plant construction would take too long to satisfy the immediate needs. In other cases, the power infrastructure is damaged by natural or man-made disasters, needing fast back-up solutions.
When we look at countries that are on the cusp of development, the demand for electricity very quickly exceeds local supply. Then the task is to develop the infrastructure very quickly.Tilman Harig, Head of Customer Order Engineering, Power and Gas at Siemens
No time to wait
The construction of a conventional simple cycle gas power plant takes around 12 months. For many fast-developing regions, this is still too long to avoid the risk that power shortages will hinder the march of progress. These areas need new power generation capacities immediately.
Lack of infrastructure
Some regions even lack the infrastructure that would allow the construction of a power plant. These regions not only need a solution for fast power, they also need modular and mobile solutions that only call for minimal infrastructure preconditions.
In other cases, the need for more power is only temporary, for example, the short-term demand in developed regions created by air-conditioning units, or the provision of backup power solutions for emergency relief situations. Mobile power plants are an ideal solution to these needs, as they can easily be relocated to a different site to perform a similar duty after addressing the most immediate need.
Fast and reliable electricity deploymentTo address the need for fast power, Siemens has developed its Fast Power portfolio. These solutions are designed to provide electricity in six months or less and are tailored to the needs of rapidly developing countries. Our focus is to address diverse customer requirements – from mobile, self-contained units with very fast deployment and installation for the most urgent needs to highly standardized gas turbine packages for both new power plants and quick upgrades of existing plants.
