Today, state-of-the-art frequency converter and drive functions are implemented using software. This software is also called firmware. For SINAMICS drives, the firmware is split up into one area with the operating system (OS) with drivers for the hardware, and in another area with the frequency converter functions, which are also called runtime (RT) functions.
